If a dark horse contender to shake up European football is what you are looking for in the 2025/26 season, Inter Milan might just be your bet.
Sure, Nerrazzuri were heartbroken last season, coming just a single point shy of Serie A to Napoli and getting thrashed in a 5-0 Champions League title defeat to PSG. But the thing here is that, sometimes, the worst tragedies create the best setup for the best possible revivals.
Since Simone Inzaghi departed after the Champions League title loss, Inter have appointed a familiar face, Christian Chivu, as their new boss on a two-year deal. This is no standard managerial change. It is the trigger that can turn despair into drive.
The Chivu Revolution: Why This Appointment Changes Everything?
You might wonder what makes Chivu tick. The Romanian is no ordinary coaching hire; he’s a treble-winning Inter icon who knows the club’s DNA pretty much better than anybody.
And here’s the thing that really counts: he’s already shown he can cut it under pressure, keeping Parma away from relegation by securing 16 points from 13 matches when he took over in February 2025.
Early signs from the Club World Cup are that Chivu is implementing what has been called a ‘silent revolution’: Inter are defending higher up the field, pressing more aggressively, and playing forward quicker than recycling endlessly at the back.
These are not just tactical tweaks; they are a complete shift from Inzaghi’s more defensive game plan and orientation.
And here is something you will notice: Chivu believes in players booked to stay on the pitch, abandoning Inzaghi’s practice of substituting them immediately once booked. It is small, maybe, but it shows confidence and mental strength that can make a difference in European games.
Strategic Transfers That Actually Make Sense For Inter Milan
Inter’s summer plan is not about headline transfers, it is about shrewd investments. They’ve already signed Petar Sučić from Dinamo Zagreb for €14 million and Luis Henrique from Marseille for €23 million, both being exactly the sort of ambitious, hunger-fuelled talent that thrives under new leadership.
But that’s where things get exciting: Several transfer insiders report that Inter have 4-5 big signings planned for this summer, with new owners, Oaktree Capital, ready to splurge.
Targets include Como’s Nico Paz and Real Madrid’s Arda Güler, players who could provide that creative spark that Inter desperately lacked in crunch moments last season. However, both of these players are owned by Los Blancos, and it will be hard to get them.
The plan targets decreasing the squads’ overall age without sacrificing the quality. It’s like rebuilding a championship-quality team, not starting one from scratch.
What The Betting Markets Don’t See (And Why That Matters)
Current Champions League odds favour Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona to win, with Inter apparently forgotten following last year’s final loss. But this provides interesting opportunities for discerning viewers.
With the arrival of the new season, new football betting sites are emerging with new analysis on Inter’s prospects, offering more enticing odds than conventional bookmakers who might be underrating Nerrazzuri’s chances under Chivu, their new head coach. These sites are not shackled by recency bias; they’re looking at the depth of teams, tactical refinement, and psychological impacts of new leadership.
The bookmaker-created markets overemphasise recent form. Don’t forget, this is the same Inter side that reached the Champions League final and dominated much of last season’s Serie A. Inter were the winners of the 2023-24 Serie A title as favourites, proving they can deliver when encouraged in the right manner.
The Concealed Advantages Of Working for Inter Milan
You might not realise it, but Inter’s recent challenges have also had several unexpected perks. Captain Lautaro Martínez called an emergency team meeting following the loss in the Club World Cup, summoning teammates to be dedicated and clearing the air about in-house divides. Such leadership crises have a tendency to unite teams rather than destroy them.
Chivu himself has talked about bringing “passion and ambition” to the club, with clear intentions of battling for trophies immediately. Unlike other managers who need time to settle their philosophy, Chivu inherits a side that knows how to win, just needs reminding of that fact.
Consider this: Inter’s stars Barella, Bastoni, and Martinez are in their prime with valuable Champions League final experience. They’ve learned to perform at the highest level, and they can’t wait to erase that PSG memory.
Why Underestimation Can Be Inter Milan Secret Weapon
European rivals will note Inter’s recent disappointments rather than its underlying strengths. The club played its Champions League final and fought for Serie A right up to the final game. Scarcely the CV of a declining side.
Chivu reported improvement in Inter’s greatest vulnerabilities: laborious build-up and vulnerability to high pressure at the back. Early indications are that he is building a more mobile, adaptable team that their opponents will not be prepared for.
And here’s the secret ingredient: less external pressure. While Real Madrid, Manchester City, and PSG are living up to gigantic expectations, Inter can develop without the headlines. There are times when this space to think and learn is more precious than any headline enhancer.
The Perfect Storm Of European Success
Inter Milan 2025-26 is where clever management, foresighted development, and greedy players with something to prove come together. Chivu understands the club culture, the transfer policy addresses genuine requirements, and the squad has experience and drive.
Don’t be surprised if the squad European football’s forgotten actually proves to be the one that reminds everyone why they’re called the Nerazzurri, because they possess the heart of champions, and now they’ve also got the leadership to let it shine.
Too optimistic!
Somewhat insightful article. The real truth is that this club has not gone out and signed players of the caliber of their biggest domestic rivals. The players they want to sign are not bonafide stars either. A top 4 finish in Serie A is all that can be expected. League will be stronger this season with Napoli and Juve adding quality and AC Milan not playing mid week games in Europe while gaining established players. So, to speculate on some CL great form is a stretch for my mind.
I really like how it pointed out that Inter is shifting from defensive tactics where they do endless recycles at the back. That’s something I really hated about Inzaghi’s Inter.
Apparently you didnt watch first a couple of years when Inzaghi came. He changed the strategy due to the age and physical issue, and under no purchase of quality young blood.
It was his preference on playing older players. Playing the same players nearly every match showed he had no balls to give young players the opportunitythey needed. He is at fault for this issue.
but was he right for doing so? tajon was too shy, zielinski had inconsistencies, he gave bisseck and asllani chances and what did he get in return? inconsistencies. where were you when we reached two CL finals and other trophies with almost the same squad for years? the main problem of inter in recent years is they have no vision to replace the aging indispensable players with players with bright prospect and go for panic transfer instead. inzaghi was the problem? hell no. the joy he brought to the team was moments to celebrate unless you’re glory hunter or plastic fan
lemme say it again for countless times; you always complain about nothing like idiot here
Great article! I would prefer we win Serie A this year.
