Alfredo Pedulla believes Inter Milan “missed their chance” to sign Giovanni Leoni last summer.
The SportItalia transfer market expert hit out at this being “typical for Italian clubs” in a video on his YouTube channel.
Inter Milan have been targeting defender Giovanni Leoni this summer.
However, it is Premier League champions Liverpool who have won the race to sign the 19-year-old.
In truth, Inter’s interest in Leoni stretches back long before this summer. Twelve months ago, they had been negotiating to try and sign the young defender from Sampdoria.
However, it was Parma who signed Leoni ahead of last season.
And the teenage defender immediately impressed with his performances in Serie A. This meant that big clubs in Europe began taking notice.
Pedulla: “Inter Missed Out On Their Chance To Sign Giovanni Leoni Last Summer”

SportItalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla lamented that “Liverpool are the lions, and we’re the sheep.”
“The problem here is that you have to try and sign Leoni when you can get him for €7-8 million,” Pedulla continued.
“You don’t sign him then. You let him slip away.”
“Then when he costs €30-35 million, you can’t sign him.”
Pedulla argued that Italian clubs “go after defenders from abroad who cost €28 million. And then they’re not worth €12 million.”
“But then we’re the sheep when it comes to signing young Italian talents,” he continued. “When Sampdoria says, ‘sign him, he’s eighteen years old,’ Inter missed their chance.”
“Now Inter can’t sign him for €35 million,” Pedulla added.
“The problem is to understand why big clubs didn’t sign him earlier – and not just Inter.”
stop it, Leoni is a big gamble and Liverpool are paying alot. Once Kumbulla was also worth 30mlns and everyone was all over him and now nobody wants him!!!
thanking you for recalling peoples memory
But inter can spend 40 on manu Kone? Something isn’t added up or being reported correctly. Maybe everyone in Italy is stupid
he’s not wrong!! This is an absolute joke, not to mention missing out on Bremer, Buonjiorno, and even DeWinter!! Brighton signing Coppala for €10 million is also a complete joke, and we now go into the new season with our 2 golden oldies yet again!! I feel really sorry for Chivu, who had asked for Leoni as his one specific request, and we didn’t even make a bid!! More important for Moratta to take a little holiday!! WTF?!?! I usually try to be one of the more positive people on here, and I don’t say this lightly, But Marotta OUT!! Ausilio OUT!! Enough is enough!!
Wow! That’s a little harsh bro. Marotta is one of a kind when it comes to managing a club. What he has achieved in Juve and Inter was not a routine task at all. He got a chaotic club and make them great again with not much investment.
He has made mistakes for sure, we also have missed out on Scamaca just to sign Asllani and Aurnatovic. However, don’t forget we could have never get Hakan, Mikhi, Bastoni, Bisseck, Thuram, Barella, Onana, Hakimi and Dumfries for the price we got them if it wasn’t for Marotta.
So, please tell me whom would you replace Marotta with that can do wonders with under 50M transfer budget each summer and make so much capital gain to stable a broken club financially while keeping it so competitive that every crit place Inter on top 5 or top 10 list of best teams in the world repeatedly?
Let’s be realistic. Financially, we are like Westham yet we dance with the elite and this is Marotta doing. You still want Marotta out?
if you are not satisfied don’t worry, Zanetti is learning from the best and will be the chairman eventually.
it almost feels as if management are setting up Chivu for failure…but fuck knows why?! If Chivu’s main request was for Leoni, why would they deny him this, knowing we’ve got 2-3 OAP’s in defence…make it make sense please, there’s something clearly happening in the background….benchods!!
All that you read all summer was the media hyping. Beppe never said they want Leoni. He said “maybe we’ll find our own Leoni here”. Kid with 17 matches. 40 mil. Thats the real joke. No way Beppe will make business like that. It was Chivu that gave him way. Look closely as he’ll pick some of our own youngsters and then you can relax. I still think the argentinian kid was being ignored for no reason from Simone. He liked experience over all. Chivu has trained so many of our youngsters. Stay calm and support our amazing team. They are doing wonders with what they have the last 6 years. Forza Inter and…Forza Inter. I love my team and have for the last 29 years.
Let me remind you that when Beppe “missed out on Dybala and Bremer, Inter had an ok season and just missed out on beating City at the final. They of course missed out trying to bring lakaka back. There must be a reason why there were never bids for Koni and Leoni. There must be something better at home if they never went all out. If you believe Beppe is not working for the good of the team – you’re wrong. Stay possitive and wait for the “silly season” aka the transfer window, to end. Its all media games and nothing real. For one, i’m happy with Susic, Pio and Bonny. Now lets see how Davide will explode with the new coach. My only concern is Dima. Poor kid is still carrying the burden of the blame for the first half goals. I hope he comes back stronger. Stefan is a rock. I dunno what’s with all the hate. And yes – Darmian and Acerbi cant last all season, so Palacios and the U23 defenders will have to step up when its time. I’m kinda glad Lookman is not coming. Thats a waste of money for someone with obviously shady morale.
The season will be amazing. I can’t wait. Forza Inter
The only thing “silly” about it is that they told us they were going to invest properly and then haven’t done anything. As it came after they already got sucic and Henrique
Every other team around us has added depth and quality we have done neither it’s f**king embarrassing and pathetic considering the stature we have built over the last 4-5 years and the financial improvements.
As it stands, with no more changes this team (which is in decline) will probably only just make top 4
Napoli will win again for sure and by a larger margin
Hey, why don’t you say the word “benchods!!!” at the end of every comment you make. You’ll look really cool.
Marotta started off well, but let’s look at things more recently…. Correa, Arnautovic, Taremi, Palacios, Asllani, Palacios, Zielinski- all massive flops!! how about the fact that he never gave Inzaghi more than a 1 year contract extension, and completely failed to back him in his argument against refereeing earlier this year- undoubtedly the main reasons that Inzaghi started to look elsewhere!! How about the fact that he couldn’t sell ice cream in the Sahara desert?? Can’t shift Hakan, after publicly humiliating him, and most recently gets a whopping €4 million for a 22 year old striker who hit double figures last season, while Milan get €40 million for Malik fucking Thiaw?!? Who replaces him? Not my department… all I know is that our President is like our defence- past their best!!
I like this conversation, you have your own reasons.
I’m with you about the mistakes but when you want to fire someone you bring pros and cons together and compare the employee output to your own history and to other clubs with the same financial attributes.
I said the pros, you said the cons and there is a ton of financial reports online. I would keep him he is running a sustainable business here.
There is just a little redline he crossed which may have affected him recently. He was supposed to leave the club in 2025 I guess and he may have gotten a little bit exhausted by now. I think Marotta is wise enough to resign if he is feeling exhausted or unmotivated.
Anyways, I raise my hat to him for what he has done here and the work that defined the shape our Inter today and will last for years after him.
He is not type of cb like acerbi and de vrij. I heard some influecer said he more like conventional cb like buongiorno who also not chased by inter. inter looking for cb who can play the ball like they have now. Maybe that’s the reason they not entertain with leoni.
