Benjamin Pavard swapped Inter Milan for Olympique Marseille on the final day of the summer transfer window.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old was desperate to return to his homeland.
Despite joining Inter as one of Europe’s finest defenders in 2023, Benjamin Pavard often seemed unsettled in Serie A.
However, he was omnipresent in Inter’s starting line-up when fit and ready.
Therefore, Cristian Chivu’s decision to omit him from the team against Udinese caught many by surprise.
Yet, there was a perfectly reasonable explanation.
Benjamin Pavard Wanted to Leave Inter Milan for France Even Before Joining Marseille

It looks like the versatile defender was homesick long before Marseille knocked on Inter’s door.
As a result, it didn’t take long before the clubs agreed terms over Pavard’s return to France.
Furthermore, the player embraced the deal, even though Marseille cannot offer him a chance to fight for trophies like Inter.
Meanwhile, Chivu’s side acted quickly to fill the gap, signing Manuel Akanji from Manchester City.
It was an ‘instinctive’ signing aimed at shoring up the defense without wasting time.
God bless you bob! i stopped commenting for a long time because of some certain reasons. now the direction which the club is headed;i dont know if chivu wants to succeed?
in the champs league final, even a kid would point out errors from the cbs – the early exit at the club world cup gave an early indication of the new tactics of high press burden on these cbs – with my great respect and gratitude. Marrota and chivu should have sat down and rub minds together on bringing players tha suit the present system, instead gambling with the macato without bringing a fast and creative winger and younger – faster cb, to me it is not elite.
and you think they force those player on chivu.
This is BS, if he actually wanted to move inter should sell him weeks ago and find 2 CB, one to replace him and one to replace acerbi devrij like we think they need to.
Dont sell him if he just asked to leave like in the last 24 hours, he has a contract here
yes and the next guy that will leave is hakan
Only thing that makes that transfer make sense. Now I’m over it.
ok it makes sense that he wanted to return to France, but makes absolutely no sense to bring in Akanji who is not a replacement for Pavard but would’ve been a replacement for Acerbi, for example. Just as a reminder, we have been looking for Leoni, De winter and Solet throughout the summer and have been been saying for a month and a half that a defender is missing, and end up taking Akanji, a great player, who who we could have signed three years ago, but our management back then chose to sign Acerbi. So, Akanji can not be a replacement for Pavard, who we have now loaned out, but for Acerbi, who we have decided to keep. This transfer window make absolutely no sense
So are you going to add context to that decision (Acerbi over Akanji) or are you just going to pretend that Inter had all of the money in the world to spend but decided to go with Acerbi (who has been great for Inter btw) over a younger player? Do you guys remember the situation 3-4 years ago? Do you remember why Conte left? Inter won it’s first Scudetto after 11 years and HAD to sell Hakimi and then Lukaku left due to financial reasons. They were replaced with Dumfries and Dzeko; both did great for Inter but Dzeko still fell short compared to prime Lukaku.
This is literally the first transfer market in which Inter could actually spend money. Sucic, Henrique, Diouf, Akanji, and Bonny were brought in, and all the dead weight is gone (Arna, Taremi, Correa, Asllani). Inter could’ve done better in the transfer market, but it’s no where near as catastrophic as you make it out to be.
And who did we buy? No names that we paid up to 25 million each. That’s how much we paid for Enrique and he’s literally gone missing. Working on a deal for Lookman for a month, a guy who can dribble, get last his man create chances, score…just to end up with a certain Diouf, perhaps not the worst possible option out there, but a way different player, who, during those 10-15 minutes that he played against Torino could not make a simple pass. we paid for bench players more than we did for a number of our current starters, that’s ridiculous. Sold Pavard to bring in Akanji while keeping 37 year old Acerbi and criminal mistake prone Bisseck, who will now replace Pavard! We are expecting Chivu to change the style of play but who did we buy for him that suits his model? This transfer window has been a disaster, you can pretend it hasn’t but it has
When those older players depart next season, what do you think will happen? Why do you think Inter didn’t spend much this season, bro? They’re already making plans for next season, and at least five players will be leaving.
Indeed. This is far from a catastrophe. In fact, the coach has substitutes to work with at last. If Zielinski stays fit, he is like a new signing.
Thank you bruno. i which they listen
can’t help a player wanting to leave but only thing I can say is the team should have gone WAY harder to sign a Good young CB if Pavard told them he was leaving. Akanji signing would have been Amazing if Pavard was staying because Akanji can play in the middle and on the Right but now we’re back to square one needing a CB.
Bro Akanji, like Alaba, can play anywhere in defense as well as in midfield. That’s why they brought him in. Aside from that, I believe we got him cheaply from Man City. Do you know how much we pay Man City for him? As previously stated, Pavard has shown a desire to leave since the beginning of the season.
Lel he knew with the current squad it would be difficult to win Titles anyways.
So he went to Marseille to win even more titles, am I right?
