Davide Frattesi is expecting to have a more prominent role at Inter Milan this season, but faces plenty of competition.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They note that the 25-year-old could be one of the main beneficiaries of a change in formation at the Nerazzurri.
Davide Frattesi has not exactly lacked opportunities at Inter in his first two seasons at the club.
However, as the Gazzetta note, the Italian international has only started 27 matches out of the 89 that he has appeared in so far.
This lack of playing time had caused Frattesi to push for an exit from Inter last January. He reportedly wanted to make the switch to Roma.
However, the former Sassuolo midfielder did not leave the Nerazzurri, however. He stuck around past the end of the transfer window.
Frattesi did certainly have his impact. Not least, the Italian international scored key goals against both Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the Champions League.
Nevertheless, Frattesi did not regularly start for Inter throughout the second half of the campaign.
And notably, the 25-year-old was an unused substitute in the Champions League. This appeared to be the last straw, as he had a bust-up with coach Simone Inzaghi.
Davide Frattesi Expecting More Prominent Role At Inter – But Still Faces Competition

Had Inzaghi stuck around as Inter coach, then it would have been all but inevitable that Frattesi would have left Inter.
However, the arrival of Cristian Chivu after Inzaghi decided to leave Inter in favour of the big money offered by Al-Hilal has offered Frattesi a new lease on life.
Chivu has shown a lot more willingness to change the formation than Inzaghi.
The Romanian has experimented with a 3-4-2-1 shape, and reportedly sees that as a long-term solution to change things up from the familiar 3-5-2 formation.
Meanwhile, Chivu could even change to a back-four system.
And a system in which Frattesi plays higher up the pitch as an attacking midfielder could certainly allow the 25-year-old more opportunities than he had under Inzaghi.
Frattesi never really managed to find a place in Inzaghi’s midfield trio.
However, a different role could get the best out of the Italian international.
Nevertheless, Frattesi will have more competition to start than ever. Inter made two major midfield signings this summer, in the form of Petar Sucic and Andy Diouf.
Sucic has already established himself as a starter in midfield trio. Meanwhile, Diouf has the qualities that he can offer a different sort of route up the pitch.
Therefore, Frattesi’s route into the starting eleven is far from a guarantee.
Ok we fucking get it the news say it like everyday and watch fratessi be playing like 10 minutes fucking max
With all due respect, what a load of bollocks!! DiMarco has his limitations defensively, as do many wing backs/ full backs, but to say he needs to be sold is absurd! He has arguably the best technique in our entire squad, his set piece delivery and crossing is world class, he chips in with more than his fair share of goals, and he is a born and bred Interisti!! He had 2 really bad games last season, and so called fans want to get rid- the mind boggles!! Yamal put him on his backside in leg 1… Big deal!! Yamal has done that to plenty-otherwise he wouldn’t be joint favourite for the balloon d’or!! As for the Champions league final, the whole team was shocking, and given what we’ve since found out about Inzaghi already having checked out, it’s not all that surprising… even in this ‘shocker’ of a season, DiMarco provided 6 goals and 11 assists…. you tell me how many wing backs had better numbers than that?
I would like to see Dimarco a couple of games in a position of winger in formation 4-2-3-1 and Augusto as lb. Give him some space forward, has good speed, magnificent shoot, fullbacks needs to have a little more physicality to be helpful in defense which unfortunately he doesn’t have.
that’s why bastoni is behind him. carlos is also really good backup for bastoni to cover dima. dima played as LB with national team against Estonia and he did good. we shouldn’t worry about left side and should focus on right side instead. we swapped pavard with unproven, yet experienced player, but the backup is still the same who gave us nightmares for couple years now. why would we change formations just to try something that might not worked. today’s inter ain’t focusing on flanks like spalletti did that’s we’re getting more midfielders and attackers every year. there aren’t many good wingbacks that can do well both in attack and defense out there. and I remind you this team play collectively as a group. that’s why we managed to win against barca, bayern and others even though we conceded that much. please don’t talk about PSG loss, there were many factors and the most important thing was inzaghi chose to approach the game cautiously due to tired legs
I always say this to you, you think this whole real football world is like video games to you and you can tweak it as many as you like and get instant desired results. no it’s not like that.
Bloody hell you are annoying that this isn’t video game, i fucking know it isn’t. Is it impossible to change formation to play with 4 back? It’s like we played with 3 cbs for 100 years, and not last 6, 7 years. No one expects that Chivu win this year everything, but many are sick with 3 cbs, and you can’t change that much during the game when you play like that. Many hate Inzaghi here, but he’s the reason we got that far in CL, he connected many average players and got 120% out of them, true he screwed up seria A twice, but he did all that without much suport from management considering what kind of reinforcements he got. Chivu isn’t on his level, i personally hope he succeed, but he’ll need more time and experimenting. 90% of attacks go over wingbacks and set pieces. We just jump midfield or pass side to side there, and that’s it. Many lost balls in midfield even against much weaker teams, opposite strikers easily outrun our centrebacks. By the end of the season oldtimers are leaving, and we’ll change half of team so i hope we can go for some more faster cbs and explosive wingers.
As far as national team go, we’ve seen what’s their result last 10 years.
Fratessi deserves to play. He is an x factor. However Inter needs to get rid of dimarco and bisseck. Dimarco have no skill and can’t dribble. No way he should be playing for Inter far less Italy. Total rubbish. Bisseck as well is rubbish and should have been sold.
You wanna sell a player like Dimarco who still has a lot to give, our best fk taker, best shooter, best centarshoot in the team. He had a fall in form toward the end of season as did half of team. Find him a solid player who can substitute him to give him a rest. True, in defense he isn’t very good, but as far as attack goes he is vital.
I agreee with you except Dimarco. He should be used as a sub for depth.
see above…. Thanks again Nima, for this 1982 piece of shit comments section!!
