Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu has praised his side’s “great performance” in their defeat to Juventus but admitted “we failed to understand the key moments.”
It was an up-and-down derby, with both sides leading the match at crucial points.
Juventus took the lead through English defender Lloyd Kelly before Hakan Calhanoglu equalised.
The Bianconeri moved back into the lead thanks to a wonderful long-range effort from Kenan Yildiz.
However, smart substitutions from Cristian Chivu and goals from Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram gave the Nerazzurri the lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.
Khephren Thuram answer his brother Marcus’ goal with an equaliser seven minutes later before an injury time winner from Vasilije Adzic.
Chivu Says Inter Milan Delivered ‘Great Performance’ In Juventus Defeat

Chivu appeared proud of his side’s performance, despite the full-time result.
Following the words of Inter president Giuseppe Marotta earlier today, the Derby d’Italia goes far beyond the full-time score.
Speaking about the match, Chivu answered questions from DAZN, with quotes via FcInterNews.
The coach said “We delivered a great performance in both halves, we went behind twice and turned it around.
“Unfortunately,” he added, “we failed to understand the key moments.”
“However, we have to focus on the performance,” Chivu said, “we came here to try and control the game and win without settling. We lacked the clarity to realise that in the last 10 minutes, we needed something different.”
The coach refused to blame individuals for the loss, “I never look at things individually. It’s never fair to talk about just one player.”
“I only say that we needed to manage certain moments better. Juventus, when they were in difficulty, never hesitated to clear the ball upfield.”
Chivu Defends Under-Fire Calhanoglu After Brace Against Juventus

Hakan Calhanoglu has been all over the media lately, attracting criticism from high-profile names such as Fabio Capello after a tumultuous summer.
The Turkish midfielder nearly left the Nerazzurri, with Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce linked with the player in the summer.
The midfielder scored twice today, silencing the criticism.
Chivu was full of praise for the Turkish international, saying “Calha did what we expect from him, this is his quality.”
“This is the real Calhanoglu,” the coach added, “He can give us this.”
Chivu On Game Management And Inter Milan Progress

Chivu clarified what he meant by understanding key moments.
“You need to understand the moments,” he said, “when you can or cannot do certain things.”
“You also have to manage a match in which you’ve spent a lot of energy to turn it around,” Chivu added.
“It’s a matter of mentality, habit and experience,” the coach said.
“We move forward, with the regret of not winning the game.”
He concluded with a remark on the team’s progress.
“Look at the performance, look at the good things we did today.
“We did the same against Udinese even if we didn’t take anything from it.
“You also have to erase some past events to have the clarity to get results. We are working well and hard.”
Although I got very worried when ‘Loglu was subbed, yet, I say let’s give Chivu another 3 to 4 games watching him closely from far and near.
people are always crying. but the matches inter play are way better to watch than with inzaghi. i think we are next level but our defence sucks. chivu is a great guy. and i trust him as coach. last Juventus match with inzaghi was just as crazy and we also lost or played a draw. whatever against Juventus is never easy and alot of goals. napoli Juventus and Milan did way better shopping for players. we dont have Modric or de Bruyne in our team. dont blame the coach i think its inter management. but i still believe chivu can do great things this season.
Sommer needs to go
bonny is a joke.. worthless noname player.. not worthy of inter.. maybe they can sell him for 30mill in a few years.. great.. made 10 mill.. opportunity cost not taken into consideration..
1. Inzaghi was inflexible AF,for Chivu to come to Inter and continue on the exact same route is stupidity.
2. The team is old, use the damn signings made in the summer.
3. Sommer got executed,it is what it is BUT Chivu F-up the substitutions. Zielinski was thrash! Because of him Juve’s Thuram scored! In a derby, even if you are beaten, YOU AT LEAST TRY TO SACRIFICE YOURSELF ON THE PITCH! Look at him at that set piece….the guy did not even try to jump or somehow hinder Thuram from scoring the (header) 3rd
4. At 2-3 it was obvious that Juventus will force and try to impose their game! Why was 3-5-2 good back in Conte’s era and at the start of Inzaghi? Because the players could maintain high pressure, the defense was at the middle of the field but that was back when the players weren’t old. So Chivu is 100% at fault and not the players for not changing formation and not trying to maintain possession of the ball when they had it. They did not even DISRUPT by fouls at the center of the field Juventus’s game.
5. I don’t understand why Calhanoglu was subbed. (The only explanation is if he could not continue 10minutes till the end)
6. Now Chivu is in big trouble, because after this lousy campaign start, the club could sack the guy and get Mou instead. This is very bad for Chivu’s starting career.
Why the hell does Inter have 3 players over the age of 37 in their starting lineup? Once again how many of the top sides in Europe have 3 players over the age of 37? Liverpool no,PSG no,Real Madrid no…
Embarrassing team I refuse to support until Marrotta and Ausillo Fuck off..
I guarantee this will be 1of Inters worst seasons in the last 20 years and Chievu will be remembered as 1 of the worst inter milan managers of the last 25 years.Chievu is a horrible manager and has absolutely no idea how to manage 1 of the best teams in Europe this is an absolute embarrassment, you would never ever see Liverpool or Real Madrid with such an amateur Manager. Totally unacceptable!!!
sell marcus thuram in summer. that guy is a rube fan
Does our best paid striker play tonight? How come i dont remember what does he do in the game?
Should have played Pio..
Love Chivu as a player and person but as a coach he’s not ready and maybe is not fit to coach a big team with high expectations.
I’m already convinced he won’t last the season and might be gone by winter if we don’t sit 4th place at least.
Management have been horrendous this summer and I blame them for everything from no good buys to keeping 3 grandpas in the lineup.
as an interista for 30 years, I agree completely with you..
I think all real Inter fans already lowered their expectation before season start. This match was absolute cinema. We need only UCL spot. And if possible give playing times for youngsters. Not Mhiki, Acerbi even tonight hero Calha. These Trio sooner or later leave the club.
Oh yeah also Sommer.
inter played really well. It was a bad day for sommer. We dominated them the entire game playing in their field, Chivu needs support, the team is really playing offensive and looking to control the games, he just needs to put some sense of urgency on the players that are conceding too many stupid goals.
Chivu should be fired before Xmass.
Pavard leaving huge mistake , bisseck is garbage .
New signings are disaster , if we will not challenge for scudetto we should play our youth , not from France
How does Frattesi get no mins?? This is nonsense. Our best player is rotting on the bench. They can’t seem to let go of that damn Mhikitarayn ffs
best? lol he recently recovered, needs time with others teams than straight against Giuve
You don’t necessarily need to express your opinion when you don’t know the subject: Frattesi recently got surgery on (July 15, bilateral sports hernia), recovered and still getting required form. Unlike you, coach sees a lot during team’s trainings, and it is his decision whom to play and whom to keep on the bench.
3 summer transfers have scored tonight for Napoli. They bought what they needed, not what could be found on the cheap around.
He is not ready for a job of this scale.
I have to agree. Chivu is too weak.
He is more ready that Inzaghi was when he joined Inter.
Inter gone from bad to worse. As I said before Inter is a failed club. Marotta needs to go. Management have failed. Napoli is going to win 3 scudetto in 4 years whilst Inter have 1. Inter have failed Marotta has failed and needs to go. He is too cheap , greedy and stupid.
there needs to be an investigation on how fratessi never plays for inter.
I agree, it’s absolutely fucking ridiculous. He’s our best player
How tf is Fratessi Inter’s best player? LOL
He is a very good player, but not our BEST player.
Best player? How ia that????
“We did the same against Udinese even if we didn’t take anything from it.“
Yeah, we did, NOT god enough!!
Coach is out of his depth, but he’s had no backing from marotta and co. The crap they’ve brought in is mid table fodder and that’s what we look like so far.
Two moments from Hakan and a lot of pointless possession. Juve looked like scoring every time they had the ball.
If you can’t defend and you let a World Cup winner leave you can’t expect to win games
Chivu got subs wrong and it lost the game. Zielinski and Bonny cost us the 2 last goals (Zielinski lost Thuram in the 3rd, Bonny lost the ball in the 4th).
Frattesi should have played; I would have preferred Pio Esposito over Bonny. Sucic should have been subbed on earlier.
Bonny and zielinski were both involved for our third goal…
Bonny was faueld by Thuram that was foul not Bonny fault , we lost the game because of VAR
Key moments like finishing with 10 men because Thuram was simply a spectator the guy was out of gas. Losing from the last 10 minutes is not a good sign and unfortunately some players deserve the blame. Like Dimarco and Bastoni conceding a foul when they can just go long. But they couldn’t with part of the reason being there’s Thuram who just couldn’t do anything but stare. Regardless of Sommer terrible saves it’s Chivu lack of experience to not realise the progress of the match because winning a derby away 2-3 with less than 10 minutes to go you don’t just let it slip and lose 4-3. Hakan player of match 100% as he’s the only one who had the urgency to try to score.
These players have played enough game to know how to manage it but somehow always act like 12 years old on their first game infront of crowd when they lose the momentum.
A great match and Chivu did well with the subs. Kelly and Adzic were not in the scouting report as potential goal scorers. Props to Juve and Tudor. They have the deepest team in Serie A. It will take a lot for Inter to win the scudetto this season.
Inter won’t win Scudetto this year, and it’s not because Chivu doesn’t have enough experience, it’s because management didn’t sign Inter level players for him.
can someone silent this amateur coach please, dude need to step down from coaching inter
he will be sacked by November
A sure bet is December if he thinks performance without results will be tolerated at Inter. I was supporting him to succeed but now there’s no hope he knows nothing about game management and defending. I keep pointing it out the guy allowed Inter to play with 10 men when leading like a different level of delusion is at play to allow something that especially while LEADING. Like WTF
100% right what a fucking ass clown.
How come Chivu, a first team player in the winning treble team doesn’t know anything about defending? And you, mister nobody, out of nowhere, know so much about football? Chivu knows much more about defendimg that you will ever know about life.
Just because he was a good player don’t mean shit! He is a rubbish manager and will be sacked by Christmas
Agreed, what a f+’*** ass clown!
