Former Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Orsi believes Inter Milan are playing a risky game with their recurring changes between the posts.

Yann Sommer has been the Nerazzurri’s first-choice goalkeeper since making the move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023. He arrived as a replacement for Andre Onana, who had joined Manchester United at the time on a deal worth €55 million.

For his part, Josep Martinez completed a switch from Genoa to Inter in the summer of 2024.

The Spaniard spent his first season at Appiano Gentile as an understudy for Sommer under the orders of Simone Inzaghi. He only featured in the Coppa Italia, or if the Switzerland international was unavailable.

However, Cristian Chivu has different ideas, so Inter fans can expect to see more of the 27-year-old.

While Sommer started in the first four fixtures of the season, Martinez got the nod against Sassuolo, suggesting that the manager plans to rotate between the two.

Nevertheless, many have argued that this sort of rotation can be dangerous.

Speaking of taking risks, sports and gambling enthusiasts might enjoy living on the edge, but a savvy punter knows he must always play on a trusted platform, hence why many have found their niche at the best Canadian online casino, which provides its users with some of the most enjoyable casino games.

However, a football manager would be wise to limit risky-taking manoeuvres. Therefore, Orsi believes Chivu must avoid a goalkeeper rotation that could jeopardise the performances of both shot-stoppers.

“At Inter, we’re witnessing a duel between Sommer and Martinez,” began the 66-year-old in his interview with Tuttosport via FcInterNews.

Fernando Orsi Not A Fan Of Inter Milan Goalkeeper Rotation

“There must be a clear hierarchy: one is the starter and the other the understudy. I consider alternating in goal to be dangerous, as it doesn’t allow goalkeepers to perform at their best.

“In fact, those who play do so with the fear of making mistakes and ending up on the bench. This doesn’t provide the security and the necessary peace of mind that those who take to the field need.”

Orsi says he’d still give the nod to Sommer, whom he considers a throwback to a past generation of goalkeepers.

“I’d go with the Swiss. I’m a fan of his: Yann reminds me of the goalkeepers of the 1980s and 1990s.

“Compared to today’s football, he adds a few centimetres in height, but he’s very responsive between the posts.”
