Midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic made his full debut for Serbia against Albania, with Inter Milan retaining control over his future.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

It has been a rapid ascent for midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic over the last couple years.

The Serb was out on loan in Switzerland with Lugano last season. The Swiss club exercised a purchase option on Stankovic, but then Inter bought him right back.

Then, this past summer, Stankovic joined Belgian club Club Brugge. They signed him on a permanent basis from Inter.

Brugge may have signed Stankovic outright, rather than on another loan deal.

However, that does not mean that Inter have lost control of the 20-year-old midfielder’s future.

The Nerazzurri have a buyback option on Stankovic. That will be active both next summer, and in the summer of 2027.

And with the way that Stankovic has been continuing to develop, there would seem to be every chance of Inter exercising that option.

Stankovic has started the season in outstanding form for Club Brugge. Including in the Champions League.

This strong form earned Stankovic his first ever start for the senior Serbian national team.

The 20-year-old got the nod in the starting eleven for yesterday’s World Cup qualifier against Albania.

It was a disappointing result for Stankovic and his teammates. Serbia lost 0-1 in a match that had significance beyond just qualifying for the World Cup.

However, the trust in Stankovic to start such an important match was another clear indication of what the future holds for the former – and potentially future – Inter midfielder.
