Inter Milan tried to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United in the summer, only to withdraw from talks at Cristian Chivu’s request. 

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri had a perfectly good reason to drop their interest in the Danish striker.

Inter were in the market for attacking reinforcements after severing ties with Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic at the end of last season.

Furthermore, the Italian giants were preparing for Mehdi Taremi’s exit.

Therefore, they considered signing Rasmus Hojlund to bolster Chivu’s options in the front third.

Despite showing strong interest in the ex-Atalanta striker, Inter ultimately decided against pursuing the new Napoli star.

Furthermore, Chivu played a major part in that decision, convincing the club to give Francesco Pio Esposito a chance instead.

Fresh off a dream breakout season at Spezia, Esposito returned to San Siro with high expectations.

Given the youngster’s phenomenal performances in the early stages of the season, Chivu’s decision looks spot-on.

Meanwhile, after a failed move to San Siro, Hojlund joined Napoli on deadline day.
