Inter Milan legend Walter Zenga has praised the work of Francesco Pio Esposito and Cristian Chivu after the Nerazzurri beat Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night.
Inter continued their climb in the Serie A standings with a gritty 1–0 win away to Roma.
It was secured by Ange-Yoan Bonny’s early strike from a Nicolo Barella assist.
The decisive moment arrived after just a few minutes.
Barella threaded a superb vertical pass behind the Roma line to beat Gian Piero Gasperini’s attempted offside trap.
Despite second-half pressure from the hosts, Roma failed to convert their chances.
This allowed Inter to claim a valuable clean sheet and a fourth straight league victory.
Speaking to Sky Sport after the match, with quotes via L’Interista, legendary former Nerazzurri goalkeeper Zenga underlined the personality shown by Chivu’s side.
“Inter showed themselves to be a very solid team,” Zenga noted.
He also praised the impact of Francesco Pio Esposito: “He came on when Inter were suffering and won ten fouls.”

For Zenga, the final whistle told its own story: “That final image, with Chivu embracing his players at midfield, shows the strength of the locker room.”
Zenga then reflected on one of the major sliding doors of Inter’s summer mercato – the failed pursuit of Ademola Lookman.
“If Lookman had arrived, Chivu probably would have had to change the way he plays. From a negative situation, with that transfer failing, the coach had to manage things differently.”
For Inter, the win in Rome reinforces belief, identity and balance.
And as Zenga highlights, the unity of the group may now be one of the club’s best weapons.
