Lazio will likely be without Matteo Cancellieri for their big showdown against Inter Milan on November 9.

The 23-year-old has been on the Biancocelesti’s books since making the move from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2022.

However, after failing to break into Maurizio Sarri’s plans in his maiden season at Formello, the club decided to send him out on loan to Empoli in 2023.

The following summer, Cancellieri joined Parma on loan with an option to buy. However, the Crociati opted against maintaining his services.

However, this proved to be a blessing in disguise for Lazio, especially after being slapped with a transfer ban that prevented them from signing new players last summer.

Amidst the lack of options, the returning Sarri decided to reintegrate Cancellieri. The latter proved to be the club’s most impressive player in pre-season.

He was also Lazio’s most influential player before the October international break, as evidenced by his superb goal in Genoa and the astonishing brace against Torino.

Based on his early-season form, it appeared that an Italy call-up was only a matter of time for the winger.

Gennaro Gattuso’s men will likely have to clinch their place in the World Cup through playoffs. Hence, they could certainly use a player like Cancellieri who can pull off a moment of magic at any given time.

But while the Azzurri are still unsure whether they’ll be heading to North America this summer, fans who are keen to watch the action live don’t have to worry about their place, as they can easily grab their football world cup tickets 2026 by following the link and get the best seat in the house.

Lazio Winger Matteo Cancellieri Suffers Injury That Will Rule Him Out Of Inter Milan Clash

Sadly for Cancellieri, an injury has interrupted his early-season momentum. The 23-year-old only lasted 20 minutes on the pitch in Sunday’s contest between Atalanta and Lazio in Bergamo.

The Verona youth product left his place on the pitch to Gustav Isaksen, before undergoing clinical tests to detect the extent of his injury.

The official Lazio website has now confirmed that the player has suffered a muscle lesion in his hamstring.

“Following the instrumental tests carried out in the last few hours, it is communicated that Matteo Cancellieri has suffered a moderate myotendinous lesion affecting the hamstrings of his left thigh,” reads the official note.

“The player has already begun treatment and will undergo monitoring tests in the next few days to assess his recovery time.”

While the statement didn’t reveal a timetable for the player’s recovery, Il Messaggero expects him to be out between 20 and 28 days.

Therefore, Cancellieri will surely miss Lazio’s contests against Juventus, Pisa and Cagliari. Moreover, the winger will most probably fail to recover in time for the San Siro clash against Inter on 9 November. The same goes for his teammate Taty Castellanos.

He will likely return after the November international break.
