The time has come for Inter Milan to start planning for the future, with Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij set to leave the club at the end of the season.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, the San Siro giants desperately need defensive reinforcements.
Inter Milan made a major defensive signing on deadline day, bringing Manuel Akanji on loan from Manchester City.
Furthermore, the Nerazzurri intend to activate a buyout clause in their loan agreement with the Cityzens next summer.
However, Akanji’s arrival will not be enough to shore up Inter’s defensive woes.
Inter Milan Must Replace Acerbi & De Vrij

Several senior stars, including Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, will wave goodbye to San Siro next June.
Furthermore, both veterans have recently struggled for form.
De Vrij offered a disappointing first-half performance against Royale Union SG, forcing Cristian Chivu to take him off at halftime.
Meanwhile, Acerbi faltered against Napoli last weekend, making two crucial second-half mistakes.
Indeed, he first left Scott McTominay on side before failing to close down Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.
Therefore, Inter would be well-advised to start scouring the market for defensive reinforcements.

We still need the same profiles we needed during the summer — the ones that ownership and management were not ready to provide. This team simply isn’t prepared for the season. So far, we’ve been lucky: in both the UCL and Serie A, most of our opponents have been lower- to mid-table teams or complete outsiders in the UCL. We’ve lost both matches against top-level Serie A sides, and our major UCL opponents are still ahead of us.
It’s almost as if we’ve all seen this coming for years now…
Not only defenders, we need at least two midfielders not as a backup but as a starters.
The reality is awful. If either one of these 2 were to be injured the defense is doomed. They need a proven defender that has some speed. The lack of speed is so glaring that I am scared every time the opposition gets the ball while running.
Scalvini is injury prone…
it would be great to see Inter with an all Italian defense. Scalvini is a good prospect option, not sure who else is at that level maybe Calafiori.
At this moment anyone who can run is better than Devrij and Acerbi look at how Inter conceded goals. Just recently Anguissa was like peak Ronaldo against Acerbi
I noticed teams are now playing fast, tricky players as a false nine, literally to give no reference point to the inter defense. It forces Acerbi out of position.I like the way Guardiola is playing Gvardiol as a left back, maybe Chivu should use Bastoni that way as a Lb and play a back 4.
the only problem with experimenting is that it should have been done during the summer preparations, not now, by now the team should have been complete and ready!
