Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez has returned to Appiano Gentile for the first time since a tragic car accident.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 27-year-old met his teammates and Cristian Chivu on the training ground.

Josep Martinez was involved in a fatal car accident on Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately, the Spaniard hit an 81-year-old elderly man in an electric wheelchair on his way to training.

Despite Martinez’s attempt to save the man’s life, the victim passed away on the scene.

Martinez was understandably out of contention for last night’s 3-0 home victory over Fiorentina.

Furthermore, Inter will not force the former Genoa stopper’s premature return.

Instead, the club will give Martinez the time he needs to mentally recover from this tragic event.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri yesterday contacted the victim’s family to offer their condolences.

As for Martinez, several witnesses confirmed he was not at fault for the tragic incident, describing it as an unavoidable accident.

However, the player remains in a state of shock.
