Hakan Calhanoglu credited Inter Milan focus, mentality and a touch of good fortune after being named Player of the Match in the 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.
The Turkish midfielder was once again decisive in midfield, dictating the rhythm of play and setting up Piotr Zielinski’s spectacular opener.
It looked as though the Nerazzurri were destined for just one point before a stoppage time own goal gifted Chivu’s side the win.
Speaking to DAZN at full-time, with quotes via FCInterNews, Calhanoglu admitted the lunchtime fixture was more demanding than it appeared.
However, he praised the group’s determination to keep their performance levels high.
“We played a good game. It’s always difficult here and matches at 12:30 are never easy. With a bit of luck, which you need sometimes, we managed to win – and we’re happy,” he said.
Verona 1-2 Inter Milan – Calhanoglu: ‘I’ve worked hard over the years’

Calhanoglu also reflected on his technical qualities and the work behind his consistency.
He highlighted the effort put into perfecting his set-piece and passing range.
“I’ve had that touch since I was young,” he explained.
“But I’ve also worked hard over the years: on penalties, free kicks, and shots from distance. It’s important to keep improving.”
Calhanoglu’s leadership and precision have been crucial in Cristian Chivu’s Inter.
They bounced back immediately from last weekend’s defeat against Napoli.
The victory keeps the Nerazzurri firmly in the Serie A title race.
Indeed it showcased the team’s resilience and maturity under pressure.
