Inter Milan star Carlos Augusto delivered his verdict on a dramatic 2-1 home win over Champions League debutants Kairat Almaty.

Speaking to Prime via FCInterNews, the former Monza defender admitted that Kairat gave the Nerazzurri a run for their money.

Cristian Chivu decided to bring Carlos Augusto back to his starting lineup at the expense of Alessandro Bastoni.

However, Augusto’s inclusion was supposed to shore up Inter’s defensive woes. Instead, he scored a vital second-half goal.

Indeed, Ofri Arad canceled out Inter’s halftime lead at the beginning of the second half.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock with his fourth Champions League goal of the season.

Despite boasting 66% possession and generating an impressive 2.12 xG, Inter couldn’t beat Temirlan Anarbekov after the break.

That’s when Augusto decided to take matters into his own hands.

Though he is no stranger to finding the net, the 26-year-old outdid himself this time, scoring a phenomenal long-range strike.

Augusto’s first goal of the season helped the Nerazzurri uphold their 100% Champions League record under Chivu.

Furthermore, another European win should set Inter up perfectly for the upcoming home clash against Lazio in Serie A.

“Like I said yesterday: there are no easy games in the Champions League,” Augusto said. “We had to start better.

“What mattered was winning. I managed to score today, but the most important thing was the three points.”

Asked whether Inter’s underwhelming performance was a matter of mentality, he replied: “Yes, yes, we have to show what we’re worth every time we step on the pitch.

“We have to be more focused. We played well, we could possibly have taken better advantage of our chances.

“The important thing is the win. Now we think about the next ones.”

However, he couldn’t explain Inter’s lapses of concentration.

“It’s hard to answer,” he added. “We played a good game.

“Everyone thinks that these matches should end 5-0, but it’s not like that.

“In today’s football, there are no easy games. The important thing is we won.”

Finally, he admitted that Chivu criticized his side during the halftime break.

“No, it’s fair. He wants us to raise the level of attention.

“We were slow in the first half, but we created chances. We scored twice, but we can improve.”
