Cristian Chivu is reportedly exploring significant tactical changes for Inter Milan’s future, as the coach looks to refine his system and prepare for a new phase of evolution.
According to Tuttosport, the Romanian tactician is considering a transition from his usual back three to a four-man defence.
Indeed, a move designed to improve Inter’s coverage and versatility across the pitch.
Francesco Acerbi will marshal the defence in Sunday’s Serie A clash with Lazio.
However, the newspaper claims Chivu and his staff are already studying long-term adjustments that could see Inter line up in a 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-1-2 formation.
Inter Milan Target Ordonez & Solet For Chivu

Oumar Solet and Joel Ordonez have been on Inter’s radar for several months, and their athletic qualities make them ideal for a higher defensive line.
The tactical rethink also extends to the attacking end.
Chivu reportedly wants a forward with pace and dynamism, reminiscent of Ademola Lookman, whom Inter explored last summer.
For now, though, Chivu’s focus remains on the immediate challenge.
The Lazio clash at San Siro could see Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez reunited in attack from the first minute.
Indeed, as Inter look to rediscover fluency and assert control before the international break.
Chivu’s long-term tactical vision, however, points to a deeper transformation.
One that could shape Inter’s next phase both in Serie A and in Europe.
Finally. Its good that we are winning but back 3 has so many limits offensive creativity and too much possession in the defense area. With back for the defenders should focus on defending and allow midfielders to hold the ball more for build up plays. I know back 3 allows Bastoni and Dimarco to go up and make plays but lets leave those to our midfielders and forwards. They need to focus on defensive solidarity.
Finally, but that could only be implemented next season. Considering season is long, oldtimers will probably get more injured and tired as months go by, short-term solution could be Tomiyasu. Can cover every position in the back, offer him contract by the end of the season + possible extension depending on how much he plays.
