Simone Sozza will be in charge of Sunday’s high-stakes Serie A showdown between Inter and AC Milan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, it will be his third appearance in this fixture.

Simone Sozza made his Derby della Madonnina debut two years ago.

Indeed, he officiated one of Inter’s most dominant derby victories in recent memory.

Led by Simone Inzaghi, the Nerazzurri thrashed Milan 5-1 in September 2023.

However, Sozza’s second appearance in this matchup was nothing short of scandalous.

Sozza’s controversial decisions resulted in Milan’s stunning 3-2 triumph in last year’s Supercoppa Italiana semifinal.

Indeed, he initiated Milan’s second-half comeback by refusing to sanction Alvaro Morata’s foul on Kristjan Asllani.

Milan would go on to score from that sequence, setting the tone for an epic turnaround.

Only four referees have appeared in this fixture more frequently, with legendary Pierluigi Collina leading the way with six matches.

Marco Guida is second with five, while Daniele Doveri and Maurizio Mariani have each made four appearances.
