AC Milan squeaked past Inter Milan in last night’s Serie A derby as referee Simone Sozza failed to live up to the occasion.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 38-year-old made several glaring mistakes.
Milan claimed bragging rights in the 183rd edition of the iconic Derby della Madonnina, beating Inter 1-0.
Indeed, Christian Pulisic scored the winning goal at the start of the second half following a poor reaction from Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji.
Simone Sozza Fails Exam in Inter 0-1 AC Milan
Simone Sozza made his third appearance in this heavyweight fixture, but he failed to live up to the billing again.
Despite awarding a clear-cut penalty to Inter, he had to consult with the VAR booth before overturning his initial decision.
However, Strahinja Pavlovic’s foul on Marcus Thuram was obvious, yet Sozza initially refused to point to the spot.
Only after receiving a VAR suggestion did he review the incident and award the penalty.
Furthermore, Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Gabbia escaped bookings, although Sozza had to show them yellow cards.
