Italian journalist Riccardo Trevisani believes Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu isn’t to blame for Inter Milan’s defeat to AC Milan.
The Nerazzurri hosted the first edition of the Derby della Madonnina of the season on Sunday.
The 20-time Italian champions entered the contest as the favourites to prevail over their crosstown rivals.
Lautaro Martinez and Co. proved why they were the bookmakers’ pick, as they dominated the action from the get-go.
However, luck simply wasn’t on Inter’s side.
The Beneamata struck the post on a couple of occasions, with Mike Maignan pulling off jaw-dropping saves.
On the other hand, Milan’s pragmatic approach paid off, as they harried their rivals on swift counter-attacks. Eventually, this tactic paid off, as Christian Pulisic pounced on the rebound to give the ‘visitors’ the lead in the 54th minute.
Inter then had a golden opportunity to restore parity when the referee awarded them a spot-kick following an on-field review.
Nevertheless, Hakan Calhanoglu uncharacteristically failed to convert against his former employers, who prevailed on the night.
Unfortunately for Chivu, he won’t be provided with the luxury of a getaway, especially with a Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on the horizon.
While Inter have been flawless in Europe thus far, the same cannot be said about their domestic form.
Trevisani Believes Crisitan Chivu Prepared Inter Milan Well For The Derby della Madonnina
The Romanian manager’s work is currently under great scrutiny, especially after losing to Juventus, Napoli and Milan in the first 12 rounds of the season.
Nevertheless, Trevisani believes Chivu doesn’t deserve the blame for the Derby defeat. The journalist argues that the Nerazzurri were by far the better side, but Lautaro and his teammates simply couldn’t beat Maignan.
“If It wasn’t for Maignan’s save, Inter would have taken a 3-0 lead. What are we even talking about?!” said Trevisani during his appearance on Cronache di Spogliatoio via FcInterNews.
“I don’t feel like blaming Chivu, who prepared well for the match. His team dominated the opponent.
“From my point of view, Inter deserved to win. But they lost 1-0 and we’re painting it as a terrible night for Chivu and his men,” concluded Trevisani.
