Yann Sommer will start between the sticks when Inter Milan lock horns with Atletico Madrid later this evening.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, Cristian Chivu is unwilling to bench the Swiss veteran.

Despite heavy scrutiny following Inter’s loss in the Milan derby, Yann Sommer remains Chivu’s first choice in goal.

Therefore, second-string goalkeeper Josep Martinez must settle for a place on the bench once again.

However, the Spaniard’s situation could change sooner than expected.

Sommer’s mistake, coupled with Manuel Akanji’s sluggish reaction, determined Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

Though Sommer has failed to impress in Serie A, his Champions League form has been outstanding.

As such, Chivu has no intention of benching the 36-year-old now that Inter’s automatic last-16 qualification is on the line.

Still, Martinez could take the former Bayern Munich star’s place in next weekend’s league clash against Pisa.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez will spearhead Inter’s attack tonight, seeking redemption for a lackluster display against Milan.
