Andy Diouf’s adaptation to life at Inter Milan has taken time, but the French midfielder is now beginning to justify the confidence shown in him by Cristian Chivu.

After weeks of waiting, Diouf finally looks ready to take on an important role in this Inter side, earning the trust of the fans and his coach thanks to a string of sharp, dynamic performances.

His emotional celebration after scoring against Venezia in the Coppa Italia offered a clear sign of how deeply he already feels part of the club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chivu had promised Diouf more opportunities and has followed through, giving him both minutes and a starting berth in the cup match.

The level of the opposition may not have been the toughest, Gazzetta note, but that should not take away from the significance of the night.

With Denzel Dumfries injured and Luis Henrique struggling to convince on the right, Chivu appears to have discovered a new solution.

The right flank has opened up precisely because of the competition in central midfield.

Inter’s core is crowded with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Piotr Zielinski and Petar Sucic all vying for minutes.

Shifting Diouf wide suits both the squad’s needs and the player’s attributes, giving him space to showcase his athleticism and left-footed quality.

His recent output proves the point. Over the last three days Diouf has played a decisive part in two matches: he helped create Lautaro Martinez’s second goal in the win away at Pisa, then scored his first Inter goal on his full debut at San Siro and even came close to a brace.

As Gazzetta put it, the qualities that convinced the club to invest €25 million are now emerging on the pitch.
