Inter Milan defender Manuel Akanji produced another impressive performance in last night’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool. 

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Swiss center-back was Inter’s best player on the evening.

There was a question mark hovering over Akanji’s head before the match as he missed Monday’s training session due to illness.

However, the 30-year-old defied minor health issues to help Inter in another high-profile European fixture.

More importantly, Manuel Akanji excelled, especially after switching to the middle following Francesco Acerbi’s injury in the first half.

Marcus Thuram headed into the game in a buoyant mood after scoring three goals in his last two domestic outings.

Yet, the French striker had a rare night off, failing to make a difference against Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

Though Lautaro Martinez’s performance also fell short of expectations, his 28-year-old partner seemed a bit lackadaisical at times.

Indeed, his flicks and tricks didn’t work out against Liverpool’s well-organized backline.
