Josep Martinez is reportedly set to start in Friday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash between Bologna and Inter Milan.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Spaniard will dislodge starting goalkeeper Yann Sommer between the sticks.

Sommer has been Cristian Chivu’s first goalkeeping option this season, keeping Martinez firmly on the margins.

Indeed, the former Genoa shot-stopper has made just two league appearances so far, with his last outing dating back to September.

However, Josep Martinez was in goal when Inter trounced Venezia in the Coppa Italia earlier in December.

Despite the importance of the occasion, Chivu is ready to give the 27-year-old the benefit of the doubt on Friday.

A place in the Supercoppa Italiana showpiece will be on the line when the Nerazzurri take on Bologna in the semi-finals.

Therefore, the pressure will be at an all-time high for Martinez, who has barely featured in high-stakes games since moving to San Siro.

Nonetheless, Inter will reportedly try to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Sommer at the end of the season.
