Inter Milan will spend Christmas at the top of the Serie A table after beating bottom-half Genoa a week ago.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, that’s a potentially good omen for the Nerazzurri fans.

Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Yann Bisseck inspired Inter to a 2-1 win at the Marassi ahead of their trip to Riyadh.

Unfortunately, Cristian Chivu failed to lift his first trophy in charge of the club as Bologna ended Inter’s Supercoppa quest in the semi-finals.

Inter will end the calendar year away to Atalanta on Sunday, heading into proceedings as the Serie A leaders.

However, Chivu’s men boast a fragile one-point lead over second-placed AC Milan.

Furthermore, they’re only two clear of reigning holders Napoli.

Nonetheless, it’s enough to spend Christmas at the top, which is a potentially encouraging sign for the Nerazzurri.

Indeed, 15 of the last 25 teams sitting at the summit at this stage of the season have gone on to win the Scudetto.
