Referee Daniele Chiffi has come under scrutiny after Sunday’s Serie A clash between Sassuolo and Inter Milan.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 44-year-old’s oversight allegedly helped the Nerazzurri break the deadlock.
Inter Milan ran riot at the Mapei Stadium, beating Sassuolo 5-0 en route to their fifth consecutive league victory.
Despite the visitors’ outstanding performance, Chiffi’s dubious decision in the early stages cast a shadow on Inter’s win.

Marcus Thuram was allegedly in an offside position when he drew a corner, which led to Inter’s opening goal.
Though it wasn’t Chiffi’s mistake, his assistant failed to spot the infringement, allowing the corner to stand.
However, the main referee let play continue, and Inter took full advantage, as Yann Bisseck put the Nerazzurri in front.
Meanwhile, Sassuolo never recovered from that early shock, struggling to gain a foothold in the game as Inter ran them over.
It’s still uncertain whether Thuram was actually offside, given that Josh Doig may have played him onside.
