Inter Milan loaned out Benjamin Pavard to Olympique Marseille in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

According to Calciomercato via FCInter1908, there was an interesting story behind the Frenchman’s unexpected move to the Stade Velodrome.

Benjamin Pavard joined Inter from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 as one of Europe’s most highly rated defenders.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri shelled out €30 million to secure his signature.

However, Pavard failed to settle in Serie A, performing well below his high Bundesliga standard.

Cristian Chivu included Pavard in his touchline debut against Torino on the opening Serie A weekend.

Yet, the 45-year-old manager relegated the French center-back to the bench in round two.

Interestingly, during the match against Udinese, Pavard’s agent contacted the Nerazzurri chiefs to complain about this decision.

That phone call reportedly created a rift between the player and Inter’s management.

Moreover, it ultimately paved the way for his loan move to Marseille, with Inter signing Manuel Akanji to fill the void.
