Former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini insists Inter Milan will be the Serie A champions even if they lose the Derby della Madonnina.
Cristian Chivu’s men have already opened a 10-point gap over their crosstown rivals, who sit second in the table.
Interestingly, Inter have been almost flawless since their defeat to Milan in the first Derby of the season back in November. They only dropped points once in Serie A since that defeat, registering a 2-2 draw with Napoli in January.
On Sunday, the Nerazzurri will be looking to exact revenge on their neighbours when they meet for the second time this season.
Curiously, Chivu’s side dominated the action in the reverse fixture, and many felt they should have come away with a better result.
Nevertheless, Derby clashes often require a pinch of luck, in addition to other key factors like focus and shrewdness. It can be somewhat similar to casino games, as the ones you can find on Rocketplay official website.
But while many believe that the upcoming Derby could be decisive for the title race, Albertini believes that ship has long sailed.
With Inter leading the chase by 10 points, Massimiliano Allegri’s men will be desperate to rekindle their chances by winning Sunday’s clash. After all, any other result would effectively evaporate their remaining chances.
However, Albertini has a more dour view of his former club’s chances of lifting the title.
Demetrio Albertini Expects Inter Milan To Win The Serie A Title Even With A Derby Loss
The 54-year-old believes that even a victory for the Rossoneri wouldn’t reopen the title race, as seven points remain a significant gap.
“I don’t think Milan’s win would revive the Scudetto battle,” said Albertini in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.
“That’s because seven points to make up is still a lot, especially with this Inter flying in Serie A.
“However, football is unpredictable: I once won a Scudetto from seven points behind with seven games to go in 1998–99, catching up with a great Lazio.
“We won them all, they lost two in a row, and then we overtook them near the end.”
On the other hand, an Inter victory would leave absolutely no doubt over the identity of the next Italian champion.
“Well, it’s the last call. If Inter wins on Sunday, they can already start sewing the Scudetto on their chest and prepare the celebrations.
“That’s why I believe the match is much more important for Milan than for Chivu’s side.”
