Inter Milan stalwart Henrikh Mkhitaryan spurned a huge chance to put his side in front in Sunday’s gut-wrenching Serie A loss to AC Milan.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Armenian star’s first-half miss came back to haunt the Nerazzurri.

Cristian Chivu suffered another defeat in a high-profile fixture as the Rossoneri claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at San Siro.

In doing so, Massimiliano Allegri’s charges have extended their unbeaten run against Inter to seven consecutive games in all competitions.

More importantly, they have whittled down the gap to seven points ahead of the last ten rounds of fixtures.

Mkhitaryan got the nod in the middle of the park ahead of Petar Sucic and Davide Frattesi.

Indeed, Piotr Zielinski started as a deep-lying playmaker, with Hakan Calhanoglu still trying to regain full fitness.

Furthermore, the veteran star had a glorious chance to break the deadlock shortly before Pervis Estupinan’s winner.

He picked up the ball at the halfway line and stormed into the box to find himself one-on-one with Mike Maignan.

However, the 37-year-old fluffed his lines, allowing the French goalkeeper to make a comfortable save.

Little did Inter know that it would be their best chance of the game.
