Yann Sommer delivered a composed but honest assessment of Inter Milan’s 1-0 defeat to AC Milan, acknowledging the Nerazzurri’s lack of creativity and cutting edge while urging the squad to stay calm and look ahead with a seven-point lead still intact at the top of Serie A.
The Swiss goalkeeper spoke to Inter TV after the final whistle, with quotes via FCInterNews.
Sommer reflected on a frustrating evening in which Inter improved significantly after the break.
However, they could not find the equaliser their second-half pressure perhaps deserved.
It was a defeat that stung.
However, Sommer’s response was that of a senior player.
And, indeed, one who has experienced enough in the game to know that one result does not define a season.
“We had little creativity with the ball and lacked chances on goal,” he said.
“Unfortunately we concede a goal that hurts. I need to review the incidents again, but I think we had the opportunities to score the equaliser, we just missed the goal today.”
Milan 1-0 Inter – Sommer Urges Calm After Derby Defeat
Despite the disappointment, Sommer was quick to place the result in its proper context.
Inter’s lead at the summit remains seven points with ten games to play.
The Swiss stopper sees no reason for panic.
“It hurts to lose a derby, but now we are calm and can prepare for Atalanta with a clear head. We have a full week to work, seven points of advantage remain and now it is the next match that counts.”
On the impact of Inter’s considerable injury absentees, Lautaro Martinez unavailable and Thuram reduced to the bench through illness, Sommer acknowledged the toll without using it as an excuse.
“A lot, for a team it is always difficult when so many important players are missing. But we cannot change that. We have a big squad with a lot of quality. We look ahead to the next match and hope to recover some players.”

what u sow is what u reap, inter refused to invest in the january transfer by bringing skilful players with pace; dimarco is just hype, cos he cannot dribble n no pace. inter are too predictable – slow with too many back pass. inter are at this level bcos the top teams performed poorly – the league is very poor; you cant buy good and strong players, except free or players that have reach retirement. inter have been playing ugly. the club cant be in top 10 in the premier league cos serie a is poor – no investment at all.
After the poor performance last night a few things I would consider.
1. Try Henrique as a midfielder next to Hakan/Zielinski or Barella, his gameplay looks more suited to this as he plays simple, no more games on wing as Denzel is back finally.
2. Change the Goalie, (Martinez has been ok, no mistakes) it feels more and more like every shot against us is a goal
3. Last few games our strikers have had no service as Di Marco has been stopped, so we need a plan B which hopefully Denzel will provide and with Hakan back we’ll be stronger in midfield, we need the midfield to link better with the strikers, no more Mhiki from the start.
What Inter needs is a new coach and quality management. Marotta have destroyed the club with this family-like structure. Players need to be sold. Get good deals for Dimarco, Bisseck and others and sell them off. Bisseck makes too many mistakes and is a liability while dimarco cannot dribble and have no pace he should be coming on as a substitute. Marotta is a total fool and should leave Inter. He is a failure and Inzaghi was right to leave.
We should extend his contract for another season. He is not good enough, but we need to first buy 2 quality CBs, 1 attacker with dribbling skills and creativity and 1 quality RWB, possibly one who can play on the left as well. We simply have more urgent needs than a quality GK.
