Davide Frattesi has offered a window into what makes Inter Milan tick as a group, insisting the Nerazzurri possess a quality that goes beyond individual talent and cannot easily be put into words, ahead of Saturday’s crucial Serie A clash with Atalanta.

Speaking exclusively in the matchday programme, the Italy midfielder was asked to identify the source of the squad’s resilience.

His answer was characteristically direct, via L’Interista.

“This squad has a truly special strength that makes it capable of overcoming any kind of difficulty,” he said.

“It is not simple to explain in words.”

He then turned his attention to the individual within the group he admires most, and the answer pointed straight to the captain.

“If I could steal one quality from a teammate, I would probably say Lautaro‘s first touch. It is formidable.”

On his own relentless energy and hunger, Frattesi traced both back to childhood.

“It is a characteristic that has been with me since I was very small. I do not think it is a quality you can train or teach, it is innate. My grit has always helped me react, whether after a defeat or even just a lost ball. It is a quality that runs very strongly in my family.”

Asked about his personal development during his time at Inter, he pointed to growth off the pitch as much as on it.

“I have matured mentally, in the management of many things and situations.”
