Serie A underachievers Lazio handed Inter Milan a crucial title boost in last night’s home victory over runners-up AC Milan.

According to FCInterNews, Gustav Isaksen’s winner at the Stadio Olimpico kept the Nerazzurri firmly in control of the title race.

Inter Milan had compromised their chances of lifting their 21st Scudetto ahead of Sunday evening’s kickoff.

Indeed, they first lost 1-0 to Milan in last weekend’s Serie A derby before drawing 1-1 with Atalanta on Saturday.

As a result, the Rossoneri had a chance to whittle down the gap to only five points.

However, Lazio pulled off a hard-earned 1-0 victory in Rome, allowing the Nerazzurri to extend their lead to eight points.

Lazio Hand Inter Milan Decisive Serie A Title Boost

With only nine games left to play, it’s hard to imagine Inter squandering such a handsome lead.

Still, Cristian Chivu cannot let complacency creep in, especially after his side failed to win any of their last three competitive matches.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will be keen to return to winning ways when they take on bottom-half Fiorentina at Artemio Franchi next weekend.

Since that will be Inter’s last game before the international break, they’ll be eager to regain some momentum after a string of disappointing results.
