Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso may be unable to call upon Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old’s availability for Italy’s high-stakes clash against Northern Ireland is up in the air.

Alessandro Bastoni had a nasty collision with Adrien Rabiot during the Milan derby a fortnight ago.

Indeed, the former Atalanta man picked up a yellow card for a tactical foul on the French midfielder. However, he also injured himself in the process.

Therefore, he had to skip Inter’s dramatic 1-1 home draw against Atalanta last weekend.

Furthermore, he is likely to miss Sunday’s trip to Tuscany for an exciting Serie A clash against Fiorentina.

Inter Milan Defender Alessandro Bastoni at Risk of Missing Italy Call-Up

After missing out on the last two World Cups, securing a place at this summer’s tournament is imperative for the Azzurri.

However, Gattuso’s side will have to navigate the dreaded playoffs later this month.

Indeed, Italy will face Northern Ireland at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo on March 26.

Unfortunately, Bastoni may be unavailable for selection, as he is still struggling with a knee injury.

Bastoni’s absence would be a heavy blow to Italy’s defensive stability, given his indispensable status in the national team.
