Inter Milan are reportedly considering offering veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer a short-term contract extension.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 37-year-old’s summer departure is no longer a foregone conclusion.

Yann Sommer has only a couple of months left to run on his contract at San Siro.

Though he was initially expected to leave the club at the end of the season, the former Bayern Munich star could stay for one more year.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri are not yet willing to cut ties with the experienced shot-stopper despite his age.

Inter Milan Mull One-Year Contract Extension for Yann Sommer

Sommer has been Inter’s starting goalkeeper for three years.

Indeed, he joined the club in 2023 as a short-term replacement for Andre Onana, who left for Manchester United.

However, his brilliant form between the sticks has seen him become a fundamental part of the Nerazzurri.

Despite looking to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur, Inter could extend Sommer’s contract in the summer.

Whether the Swiss ace would be Cristian Chivu’s first choice next season remains uncertain.

Still, there’s a chance for Sommer to stay at San Siro for another year, at least as a backup option for the Italian keeper.
