Inter Milan could kick off their summer rebuild by bringing both Stankovic brothers back to the club, with Aleksandar’s return from Club Brugge all but confirmed and Filip potentially following as backup goalkeeper behind expected new number one Guglielmo Vicario.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Aleksandar’s return is effectively a foregone conclusion.
Inter hold a buy-back clause worth €23 million from his loan to Bruges and will exercise it.
Therefore ending speculation over a second season in Belgium.
Filip’s situation is more nuanced.
Stankovic enjoyed an excellent spell with Venezia and Inter retain a 50% sell-on clause from his original departure.
Indeed, meaning they could repurchase him at half the market price.
That financial advantage makes the operation an attractive one, particularly if the club are looking for an experienced and familiar backup to Vicario at a reduced cost.
Sommer Extension Remains An Alternative To Filip Stankovic Return At Inter Milan
The one variable is Yann Sommer.
The possibility of the Swiss veteran staying on as a senior backup and dressing room presence has not been entirely ruled out.
Indeed, making Filip’s return contingent on how those conversations develop in the coming weeks.
Either way, Inter’s summer revolution is already taking shape.
And, moreover, it could begin with two brothers returning home.
Buy Filip as a back up to Martinez and let Sommer leave at end of the season. We do not need to spend a dime on Vicario. Martinez is actually by far better than the Vicario I see playing at Totthenan. GoalKeeper is not a priority. We need quality and physical defenders and midfielders…
I hope its true. Filip did great in the 2023/24 pre season
He did great and I was really hoping he got a shot in the regular season that Summer as a starter but then we got Sommer.
He’s been great this season as well. Venezia is top of the table, and last time i checked he had the most clean sheets before they got there.
