Inter Milan are prepared to offer Stefan de Vrij a short-term contract extension while Francesco Acerbi departure at the end of the season is now virtually confirmed, with the two veteran defenders heading in opposite directions as the Nerazzurri reshape their backline.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via FCInterNews, Inter are satisfied with De Vrij’s performances under Cristian Chivu this season and will offer the Netherlands international a new deal to keep him beyond June 30th.
However, the decision ultimately rests with the Dutchman himself.
De Vrij Faces Life Decision At Inter As Acerbi Confirmed To Leave After Four Seasons
Indeed, Romano frames it as a life choice for the defender, accept Inter’s offer and continue in Milan, or take one of several proposals that have arrived from abroad in recent months.
Benfica and Olympiacos have both made concrete offers.
The lure of a final big contract overseas is a genuine alternative.
Furthermore, on Acerbi, Romano is definitive.
The Italy centre-back will leave Inter after four seasons.
Indeed, bringing the curtain down on a chapter that included the second star Scudetto and a Champions League final appearance.
Therefore, Inter face a significant defensive rebuild regardless of De Vrij’s decision.
Muharemovic and Solet are already identified as incoming targets.
With Acerbi’s departure creating a clear vacancy that must be filled before next season begins.
This talks about the future transfer ambitions.
Don’t know what to say, he’s definitely a symbol of one era, but at 34 has recently slowed down and become more and more prone to mistakes..I am afraid that if we keep him that will be a bad signal for our (lack of) ambitions on the upcoming market…
He always screwed up in big game.
he should be starting every week in the center.
most of our clean sheets have come when DvJ started in the middle.
he has been solid.
Why do we need him another season? This one he played just in 15 games, slow as Acerbi is almost, one speedy striker and we’re cooked. We have Basto, Akanji and Bisseck next season, Carlos as occasional left centre-back, Solet and Gila would be perfect for us, both under 30mil, 26 years old, amongst the best defenders this season. Or one of them and one high prospect U21 player, like Gabriel from Lecce for example
De Vrij deserves to stay. Acerbi has given his best
I agree. I wish De Vrij stays. Not sure about Acerbi.
It all started with him. He made that pen to bring mauro down (to be honest if he didnt mauro would score).
2-2 and vecino 3-2 at the end to come back to ch. league.
Spaghetti didnt improve the season after so we took conte …and rest is history
We have to be better at retiring players that have gave half their carrer to us.
