Inter Milan are closing in on a €50 million agreement with Atalanta for right wing-back Marco Palestra, with the Nerazzurri’s one major spending allocation of the summer window set to be committed in full to securing the 21-year-old.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, with the two clubs now working through the final details of a structure reported to comprise €45 million fixed plus €5 million in add-ons – precisely the valuation Atalanta have held firm on throughout a negotiation that stretches back several months.
As SempreInter reported in early June, Palestra’s agent travelled to Milan as the €50 million framework emerged, with Atalanta having previously rebuffed an opening offer of €40 million plus €5 million in bonuses as insufficient. The gap has since been bridged, though discussions around the bonus structure and a potential sell-on clause in Atalanta’s favour are still being finalised.
Five-Year Deal and Oaktree’s Calculated Outlay
Palestra is ready to sign a five-year contract with Inter – a significant upgrade on his current Atalanta salary of approximately €280,000 per season. The long-term commitment is central to Inter’s intention to lock down the right flank under Oaktree’s ownership model, which budgeted explicitly for one premium acquisition in this range.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with Palestra, but as earlier reporting on Inter’s pursuit made clear, his preference for the Nerazzurri has remained unwavering throughout. Atalanta’s firm pricing effectively neutralised any structural advantage Premier League clubs might have offered.
Further meetings between the clubs are scheduled to conclude the clause negotiations. Assuming no late breakdown, medicals and the formal signing of the five-year deal are next – multiple outlets describe completion as a question of timing rather than substance.
atalanta has been robbing EPL clubs every year.
Palestra will add to that list. 60million for him is way overpriced.
He will flop just as Hojlund flopped in Man utd, Romero not doing as well, Ahmad anyone? Retegui to arab, after that he was never heard of anymore, Koopmeiner was a beast at Atalanta and now he’s a house cat at Juventus. Even Lookman did not create as much wave as he did before at Atalanta. they all looked good because they played in Atalanta’s system. once they left they are not able to recreate that form.
In fact, Bellanova is good idea. He is righ winger like Dumfries? I forgot. 😛
Fans hope to see our young players have the opportunity to appear and develop, becoming golden talents in the future, we have proven to have many talented players: philip/alex stankovic, sabastiano/pio esposito, berenbruch, akinsanmiro, massolin…..
Take Bellanova 15 – 18m if this deal falls
Palestra has allegedly accepted Chelsea’s offer..we’ll end up with Odeggard in the end..
Palestra is no where close to Dumfries level. Look at what Inter have become. A notices coach and now a notices rightback. So they couldnt pay 50 mill for Lookman but they can pay that for a 21 year old Italian with one good season. Italian players are not at an elite level right now so the more Italians worst for Inter. Fans need to rise up and demand Marotta leaves the club. Suning built a core and now the club stagnant with the same players for over five years. No Champions league trophy lets say Marotta tenure have not been successful. Its time for him to leave and let the club and players grow.
Well, we will never know until the young player is used… This has been the mentality of Italians this their failures… Okay, let’s say Palestra is overrated, what else can be done? I will tell you… Proper scouting, boldness to use players from primavera who merit a shot at the big stage and hardwork… It hurts not watching Italy play at the world Cup and I have been singing the reason here, while many, despite the abundant fact choose to insult me… Italy should wake up…
I agree he is too expensive as young player. He could be like Frattesi. Maybe Palnestra not used to play for big club. But, sure we hope we are wrong. I’d be pleased if he becomes a half of Dumfries was.
I think he’s overrated and too expensive. Inter needs to lower the price down else they should forget about him and go for florintina’s Dodo to save money.
