Friday evening’s Serie A draw against Genoa may have shown that Inter Milan still struggle to “win ugly” in tough matches.

This is the suggestion of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, in today’s print edition.

Inter did not have the worst performance in the world against Genoa on Friday.

But what was clear was that the match did not represent Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri side at anything like their best.

Inter were missing a few key players in the form of Federico Dimarco and Lautaro Martinez. And they were going head-to-head with an opponent who weren’t afraid to press them all over the pitch.

The result was a fairly muted Inter display.

The creative spark that has seen Inter at their best this season, moving quickly and with precision up the pitch to create chances, was never really there.

And in its absence, Inter could not take three points back to Milano.

Do Inter Need To Learn How To “Win Ugly?”

Apart from Marko Arnautovic’s goal, a tap-in from a rebound after a deflected Nicolo Barella effort was saved, Inter didn’t create much of note.

There seemed to be a lack of that ability to produce one or two great chances out of nothing when the entire team wasn’t functioning at its best.

Few would deny Inter’s ability to create plenty of chances when they find their rhythm.

The Nerazzurri are, after all, Serie A’s top scorers.

But when Inter face a team who really disrupt that rhythm, the chances do not arrive.

And then at the other end, Inter showed a bit of shakiness, particularly on set pieces.

That was the route by which Genoa’s equalizer arrived. Defender Radu Dragusin headed home from a corner at the end of the second half.

The fact that that goal arrived not long after Inter had went ahead was indicative of a lack of ability to protect a lead, Tuttosport suggests.
