Talks about Mauro Icardi’s future never end, even though the player himself keeps saying he is not going anywhere the papers seem to disagree. This time it is il Corriere dello Sport.
”The truth of the matter is that Mauro Icardi is a striker with goalscoring in his blood; 53 goals in Serie A (in 117 games) at just 23 years old tell it clearly. That is why he is so important for Inter. Should he want to, Maurito could be the maker of his own destiny. Should Inter reach third spot and the Champions League, it would be almost impossible to see him in another shirt other than the Inter one. Unless an offer that is impossible to turn down should arrive. But should it just be Europa League, then there are no certainties and the captain would be one of the biggest candidates for a sacrifice. Probably even for a number just below 40 million euros.”

The seemingly never ending debate to sell or keep Icardi is imo the toughest decision Inter will have to make this summer. I think the sale of players like Murillo, Miranda, Brozovic, and Handanovic are all pretty straight forward. Do anything and everything to keep the first two, and for the second two, although I would like them to stay, Inter can let them go for the right price because they are both replaceable. As for Icardi, his case is unique because although he seemingly appears to be in the same category as Brozovic and Handanovic, he is in fact in one of his own. Icardi has thus far been the only Inter player of significant talent and value to show an unwavering commitment to the Nerazzurro, which for me makes him invaluable. Icardi, along with Perisic and Medel, are examples of exactly the type of players Inter should be doing everything to keep in and add to our squad. Players that either take pride in wearing the Nerazzurro or at the very least will give their all while wearing it. Obviously, it isn’t always easy to tell who these players are because sometimes the respect for the shirt needs to be earned, but with the direction Inter seems to be going, I don’t see that as a problem.
