Frank De Boer prefers to play a 4-3-3 style of play. Along with that, he plans to add Luiz Gustavo to his midfield trio. It would look something like this (as shown in the picture above): Handanovic; Erkin, Murillo, Miranda, Ansaldi; Kondogbia, Luiz Gustavo, Banega; Candreva, Pericic, Icardi. A well rounded lineup to be fair. They say he favors a Barcelona, possession type of football with this type of lineup. Pending our forward situation, we will soon see if Icardi will stay with Inter for this season. If Barcelona type of play is what he is going for, I don’t think Icardi will find his place in the starting XI as he is nowhere near technical enough for the role whereas a player like Jovetic or even Eder would suit De Boer’s style of play much more fluidly.

So far based off his interviews and how he acts, he seems calm as a coach who has done it for 30 years. He plays to win and wants to win. He shows he wants to keep icardi and the rest of team. He shows he wants to play the younger players and give them a chance in the first team. He shows good respect for the team and the presidents(yes they seem to want respect and you have to suck up to boss) He shows that he does not believe juventus is unbeatable. He shows a new fighting spirit and can do well with the team he has now. I feel he will help kondogbia and icardi, as well as help murillo better himself defensively because FDB used to play CB. I am hopeful for this season. More hopeful than last week when we got raped by tottenham. People may agree or disagree with mancio leaving, but i think we all agree the last time we allowed 4 or more goals by tottenham was the last time you saw us in champions league. I understand why the management would be concerned. We are trying to challenge for europa this year and champions league for next. We cannot be losing by these margins, even if it is a friendly.

When you use wingers in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, you definitely need a target man, who to utilise the efforts of the wings and it’s not crucial for those forward to be involved a lot in fluidity of the ball. How much Luis Suarez or Eto’o was involved in fluidity of the ball? Their part is different and insist more movments without the ball, looking for free spaces between our behind the defenders. Yes they are more mobile than Icardi, but with Mancini he improves his movements and can be successful with De Boer’s style of play!

I firmly believe there is no need for Gustavo because we have Gary Pitbull. 4-3-3 is more like 4-1-4-1 with Pitbull protecting the defense while we use Kondo’s technique and Banega’s workrate to release wingers to make chances for Icardi to poach and score some goals. Also Erkin could work in 80% of the games, and Dumbo would be deployed in difficult games due to higher defensive skills.
I’d rather keep Brozo as a super-sub for K-dog or Banega. But if we can get Gabigol, I’m OK with sacrificing him.

Gary Medel doesn’t belong in midfield in 2017. Maybe in 1990. He is a pure defender. A great one i might add. He lacks pretty mutch all the attacking and technical attributes. In that position a player who can build up the play is needed if you want to play beautiful, possesion football. He might play Banega in front of the defence, in a Pirlo role.

When you play 4-3-3 in Italy in the 80% of the weak league games, you need someone to provide cover, and also have the ability to read games and cut passing lanes.

your first statement is so untrue. medel defensive style is very frantic and lacks any positional sense. i can name 20 better midfielders defensively. but that’s not the point. i think we’re the 3rd/4th best in Serie a right now. we definitely need an actual defensive midfielder and 2 center backs a winger and a fullback. our starting line up might be 2nd best in Serie A but our squad is not.
If the purpose of selling Icardi is because he isnt technical enough, why would you want Diego Costa or Giroud in swap deals for him? They are of a similar mold, if Icardi doesnt fit neither would those guys…

The problem with “tiki taka” and similar styles of high pressure offensive football, is that it requires extremely good players, especially technical and in terms of passing, in every single position to work.
Inter does not have this, not even close. There is not enough technique, vision, creativity or passing ability to ever be succesful with such a style.
This Inter team should be playing very direct football, as both Perisic and Candreva are very direct players. While not having a particular high D-line.
If De Boer insist on playing a high D-line when attacking, then Inter will concede a lot of goals. Inter does not have the technical abilities to be able to play themself out of pressure, the players are not anywhere near good enough for that and too many mistakes and bad passes are generally made.
