Inter Technical Coordinator Walter Sabatini spoke at a press conference from the pre season retreat of Brunico. Sabatini started out discussing his role: “My role is a very prestigious one and I have a lot of responsibility, I’m lucky, I always have been, and I accepted this role with pride. I know what we have to do and we’ll do it.”
Much has been made about fellow Serie A clubs activity in the mercato, none more so than rivals Milan. Sabatini gave his opinion on their dealings and revealed Inter’s plan: “We’re not looking at signings by other clubs, though I admire what Milan are doing. We’ll think about our own model though, our strategy is shared by the club, the staff and the Coach and we know what we need to do. Milan have decided to revolutionise their squad, Inter have taken another choice and the fans need to understand that. Hopefully they share in our choice. Last year Inter sent a signal that they could be competitive. We have strong players and with the coach we’ve decided to redefine the team, taking into consideration the signals the lads are giving right now. In the meantime we’ll work on integration, because the squad is strong and needs to be integrated.”
Sabatini then discussed Inter’s quietness on the mercato front: “It’s not all about fireworks. This is a moment in which dreams are born, but there’s the silent market too. Inter are targeting very difficult objectives, which are tied to the will of their clubs. I don’t have to calm anyone, Inter is a guarantee in itself. I can say this with knowledge of what’s going on, we’ll do the right things to ensure this team competes as a protagonist.”
Ivan Perisic was also spoken about amid a wealth of reports suggesting that he will depart Inter at some point during the summer: “Perisic is a player who our coach has asked us to keep. We’d do that, except we only want those with the right motivation. There’s strong interest from Manchester United, who know our ideas, so we’ll see what happens in the next few days. It’s a fact that Inter set the price of Inter players. Perisic is a great player for Inter, we want him to stay and the only way that won’t happen is if we get financial advantages to improve the team. In the meantime I hope that Perisic will maintain the behaviours required of him, because we want to forge the idea of Inter every day and Spalletti is a maestro in that regard. We need conviction and professionalism, and that’s not enough either. It will take faith and soul and our Coach will get that from everyone – including Perisic.”
The former Roma and Palermo Sporting Director then spoke in detail on a number of the names that have came in to links with the Nerazzurri.
Starting with Dalbert, Sabatini said: “We’ve tried to comply with a request for Nice that for the moment they don’t want to sell him, but then we want to sign him. We’re aiming for players who aren’t easy to get. Other deals can be completed in half a day, but you have to beware of that: if a deal is too easy then something isn’t right.”
Angel Di Maria was the next to be discussed by Sabatini: “We have to be sure that he’s right for Inter, he might not fit. Wage concerns should be taken into account by every club. I’m not talking about Di Maria’s ability, which is huge, but that doesn’t mean he’s the player Inter need, even if he’s a fantastic player. It could be that later I’ll change my mind and he’ll arrive, but I don’t think so.”
Sabatini then moved on to Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal: “Sanchez isn’t a name on Inter’s shortlist, because we’re pragmatic and he can’t be an objective, not for the financial sacrifice Suning would have to make. Do I like Arturo Vidal? I like him very much! He and Nainggolan are different, but at a certain point, sure. I like Vidal, and we’ll try to understand if anything can be done. I think it’s very difficult though, I don’t think Bayern want to lose him. But denying that Vidal would be of great interest to Inter would be unrealistic. There’s no ongoing negotiation, but we wonder if there’s any chance and if there is then we’ll pursue it.”
Sabatini subsequently discussed Radja Nainggolan and the Belgian’s current situation: “Nainggolan is always a player I have in my head, he’s a great player. I think he’s a possibility for Inter, but being aware of the circumstances surrounding a possible transfer from Roma I think it’s impossible. He can still always be an objective though, Inter’s desire, I have no problem admitting that. Just the same though I can admit that it’ll be almost impossible, because Roma will hang on to him until the end. I’ve thought about it, because I’ve seen some discomfort between him and Roma, I’ve said that we’re available. We can’t start bullying though, because he belongs to Roma. But I don’t mind admitting I’d like to bring him here.”
Financial Fair Play was the next topic that Sabatini discussed: “We complied the first mandatory request by June 30th. Maybe Gardini will be more accurate than me. What should we do? I will answer in the coming days to this.”
The 62 year old also shared his opinion on the vice-Icardi front and was asked if Andrea Pinamonti could fill that role: “I hope that it is Pinamonti, Spalletti is impressed by the guy and it’s a good thing if our youth can play an important role.”
Sabatini concluded the lengthy interview, that saw him call a cigarette break midway through, talking about Yuto Nagatomo: “I would not hold him here [against his will], we’ll see what we can do for him, he deserves his space. How likely is he to stay? 50 or 60%. We like him, he is a great professional and will make his own assessments, too.”

I guess all the deadwoods are all staying…
“We have strong players …” , who? Nagatomo? Ranocchia? Ansaldi? Candreva?
dont talk as if Inter already has a winning team. Dont you remember Inter is 7th (with 14 losses and 49 GA in 38 matches) last season??
Inter is bad at defending and the only Def. Inter bought is Skriniar.
Dont hide under the blanket and say that you already did something for Inter
No need to worry for this mercato, b4 end of august we’ve got ours; nainja, dimaria, martinez and kick those fuckin lords out
Nonsensical interview by Sabatini.
No wonder roma fans are happy he is gone.
Let’s talk more actions some fans are starting to doubt him already. The time for talks is over Get Aurier, Berardi, Radja, Darmian, Dalbert, Gueye, Martinez, De Vrij, Benassi, Calabria, Barreca, Scuffet or Perin, upset Juve by taking Bernardeschi away from them. I really like to see Insigne in them team really dont care if he is injury prome. We had Sneijder and he make it.
Perisic for Martial + $ ?(15-20 M)
Really?
I would take that one right away.
I already like Martial more than Perisic and he is 21(22?).
That would be a masterful operation.
Cant wait to see where those 150 – 200mil are going to be spent, just cant wait…….
In August when they players we overpay for don’t have time to integrate and their value then proceeds to drop exponentially. Love is blind but we sure are dumb and insane repeating the same mistakes (see Einstein).
Oh well PazzaInter, I love you. Through thick and thin my heart beats black and blue.
milan mercato is like the marvel cinematic universe: colorful, festive, entertaining. everyone likes it. on the other hand, inter’s is dc extended universe: quite, dark, slow, and seems like everybody is hating it. but then wonder woman came and now dc is a fan.
anyhoo, no one commenting on how cool this guy is? taking cig break mid-conference? damn
Not everyone is able to get a moment like this, he’s going to explode fan’s brains out, no need to rush, we have enough time to uplift our team. He is composed as fans should be, damn guys it’s only begging, there are plenty of options to make things go our way
agree.. this is the only mercato when i’m not in a feeling of worry in any way. we are (finally) in good hands now
Loving the Marvel metaphore.
That’s exactly it,we are working SERIOUSLY,for the first time in years.
On Milan:
“Festive”..
Over 200 m ,more than any Italian club ever, by far, wasted on some shitty players and maybe a couple of good ones too,by a very shady, doubtful ownership.
They are betting all of their chips on one number:
This one season.
If everything does not go perfectly as planned for them their financial situation and stability will be a train wreck.
I am keeping Suning, thanks.
no sh*t, but we ever did that type of crazy mercato before in 2009-10, and what we got was gold
damn, when you said wonder woman suddenly i think of wanda, she did make icardi becomes the hottest thing around last year
BIlan bilan what I’m not scared they cant trick me. Conti will be facing dalbert I would pick dalbert any day. Midfield Borja Valero v biglia any day Valero kondogbia v kessie Joao Mario vidal and naingolan I don’t care but with spalletti we good it’s all hype even if they get bellotti.the only problem is candreva I don’t like him.
Liked you, but I like Candreva too.( like any coach).
I would love to get Belotti thou, and I would hate them to get him.
yeah, and dont forget:
Naga > R. Rodriguez and Rano > Bonucci.
right?
Nagatomo out ranocchia out, I didn’t mention them as I don’t regard them, worthy of inter. I don’t envy anything.
Sabatini: “Spalletti likes Nagatomo a lot and he wants to keep the player here. We will see.”
I think that we will see shitomo again
Lol this was the most worthless press conference ever.
Bla-bla-bla.. we’re working. Bla-bla-bla… nagahomo is a good guy. Bla-bla-bla…we have a plan but it’s secret.
Nothing new under the sun.
I am optimistic about Nainggolan signing for inter.
I can’t figure how we allowed Bonuci went to bilan after having meeting with Sabatini… i am still imagining the whole thing.
Ikr but there’s I much that happens with these transfers. Complications and the will of the players. But I believe we will come good in the market.
I hope so mate
I wish I had the optimism of some inter fans here.
I read that it was Bonucci through his agent who offered himself to Bilan, because he didn’t get along with Allegri at all. Their relations fell out last season.
As for why Bonucci wanted to move to Bilan instead of us? Maybe he thinks that RuBe fans and players would “kill” him if they knew he wanted the transfer to us, perhaps he thinks that their fans and players will consider that his move to Bilan is more acceptable than him moving to their bitterest rival, which is us.
He moved to milan simply because their project has become much attractive than ours. And with him, now it’s even more attractive. Everybody talking about Milan.
But even he surely knows that Bilan’s ambitious project isn’t based on a solid financial footing, they could implode financially if they fail to reach their objectives this year and the next.
Oh, and the other reason why he chose Bilan was perhaps because they are willing to offer him a very high salary: 6 million Euros plus bonuses which can raise up to a total of 8 million, or so I read.
Disagree. I think we were not willing to pay him more than 5m/year
So we want to bring champions but are unwilling to pay anyone more than icardi, even if he is one of the best in the world. I see.
Defenders usually earn less than strikers man. That’s why they are valued lower as well. Another reason is we just signed a ball playing defender in Skriniar. I know he doesn’t even fit in one sentence with Bonucci but signing Leo would put our 20m on Skiriniar in waste
No he move to Bilan because he had a fallout with Allegri and Rube didn’t offer him the salary that he wanted 6.5M.
The move to Inter it was nothing more than a rumored nothing concreted.
I see
Bonucci wanted 6.5m a year. That would had made a huge inconsistency in our dressing room. Wanda bitch would had made another scene. Bilan is done if they don’t start the season well. They are paying a kid like Dollarruma too much, they took captain’s armband away from Montolivo, bought players to potentially replace their best player in the past 2 season (Bonnaventura)… I wouldn’t envy them
In other words” there would be disaster soon in bilan
Bonucci transfer worth 42m + De Sciglio. In addition, Jube just lost Dani Alves. That’s why Jube prefer to sell that guy to Bilan over Inter, beside our arch-rivalry of course.
