It’s the second day of preparation in Singapore for Spalletti and his side as Inter work on the games against Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup.
The Inter tactician spoke to journalists before this morning’s session about all things concerning Inter at the moment.
“As in all things, it’s fundamental for us to create a ‘better life’ than the last one. Last year there were problems, so we want to be a real squad. Then, and it’s a consequence, we have to look at the rankings, a fundamental aspect, of course,” Spalletti said.
Spalletti was then asked what the team’s goal for the season is.
“There are three very strong teams in the top four, where it is difficult to pick up points in the last season, and if they did not fail, distance would be important, but we have no other choice. Inter must have strong ambitions.”
The next discussion was about Ivan Perisic and the fact that as of late, there have been no rumours about the Croat moving to Manchester United.
“I think it’s normal, our players are strong, but there is a valid contract and it must adapt, then if a satisfactory bid comes in we might change. But, for the moment, the right bid has not come in .”
Then the transfer market in particular was the topic of conversation.
“I still have to get to know a few players, this is normal. It’s normal that we can do something in this game, but we have to receive different messages from the team. We’re Inter and it’s normal that there’s pressure for a club like ours.
“Candreva? No. There was absolutely nothing from Chelsea. There was no request for Antonio.
“There is no established number for how many players we want to bring in. It also depends on variables such as the cost and the necessity of the player.”
Spalletti was then asked about what he expects from the game against Bayern Munich.
“We will play with it, always and in any case. Regardless of the names of our opponents. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are strong and have no weaknesses but I expect an Inter team can do well. These teams must be our goal in perspective.”
Conte had some nice words for the Inter tactician, and he was asked about how he felt about those words from the Chelsea boss.
“He is strong and winning, so I’m glad he has expressed some ideas about me. There is mutual esteem. Antonio is a modern technician. I’m very pleased with his words”
Stevan Jovetic scored the winner against Lyon and Spalletti was asked whether he would be excluded from the squad this season.
“The consideration to be taken is this, and it is very simple: There are protagonists in football, that in a group where there is competition it is difficult to stay. They can not self-stimulate, they play or they don’t, I agree that they have to have a number of games guaranteed.
“I can not do this, so it is best to speak clear now to avoid problems. There are also some tactical considerations to speak of, my preference is 4-2-3-1.”
Lastly, the Inter manager was asked whether he believes that one season is enough to reach such prestigious goals.
“It’s not a problem for me. I live every day the same way. Working 24 hours a day to make the team improve.”

Spalletti is saying the same thing as I have said for a while about Jojo, he I said great when he plays in a team as a starter, then he’s motivated and does well. But when he isn’t a starter – and Spalletti just comfirmed that in this interview also because of tactical reasons- then he can motivate himself and doesn’t do well.
That’s why he needs to leave.
Top 4 is the goal, but is it realistic? Not really. At least it requires some of the other teams to underperform for it to happen. On paper on all of Rube, Napoli, Roma and Milan are superior.
Inters chance for top 4 is that romas new coach might flop or that Milan’s new signings doesn’t gel.
Either way, is a shame that suning have been unable to properly support Spalletti to create a real top 4 team. Maybe next summer.
Paper is remarkably ineffective at winning football games.
Well we were stronger than Bbilan on paper last season and that got us where?? You seem to know the future or just an aged cranky whiny fanboy.
inter only needs 26-28 wins to get to the 4th place
i think the title is misleading. the goal is top 4, not 4th place. what a weak ass goal lol
it’s smart, we want our opponents to underestimate us
LOL…
i think it’s bad translation.. our goal should be top 4..
I think 4th place is realistic though. Milan, Juve, Napoli are way better than Inter at this point and we’ll be competing for the 4th place with Roma and Atalanta this upcoming season.
As great as winning scudetto would be, I just don’t see it happening with this squad next season.
Don’t we Milan being better than us? They have a total new team with foreigners who don’t know the league, language or the way of playing in Italy. It will take time for them to gel – no matter how well they are doing in pre-season.
Besides, they are much further ahead than any team they have played because they need to be in shape before the first qualifying game to enter the EL – which is next week right?
I think their mercato has been a huge success. Players like Bonucci & Biglia already know the league very well and I don’t reckon they need much time to gel.
They’re playing EL 3rd round vs some Romanian club tomorrow.
i did not mention anything about scudetto. i’m with you about that 🙂
