Luciano Spalletti and Stefano Pioli have decided to field the following 22 players in tonights opening fixture of the 2017/2018 Serie A season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district.
Spalletti has chosen to field Borja Valeri and Matias Vecino together with Marcelo Brozovic in midfield whilst opting to go with Yuto Nagatomo instead of Dalbert in the left of defence. The complete line-up:

Myth busted tonight: Play Nagatomo to defend against fast wingers.
He’s clearly a yard behind anyone he was against tonight. And they aren’t even fast. He can only win tackles when opposition players are running down the byline and conceding corners in the process. His only attribute is his fitness/stamina, and that ironically and tragically is the reason why he won’t be subbed out if he starts.

It’s early to say but I’m concerned with this Vecino guy.
I paid attention to him closely in the second half and there were several actions where he didn’t help the defense when Fiorentina was counter attacking.
He was simply jogging, not really trying to get as fast as possible in the help of his team mates.
vecino is good but not a god
I’m not saying he’s not good but at least he should try do his best.
Watching the opponents attaching your defense in front of you and not trying to help them it’s quite a disturbing image for me.

But I can at least remember 3 occasions where he just jogged and didn’t help the team when we were defending against a counter attack.
I’d rather play Gagliardini or Mario depending on situation. He will prove valuable as depth player but I’m not too happy yet with him starting.
I agree with you, Vecino is more mature and more attacking skilled wise but Gagliardini is better at defense. And he just doesn’t stop trying while Vecino tonight seemed not to be that interested in defense.
I think it is just a matter of time before Mario starts playing as a starter, because I don’t think Spalleti is mad to play Brozo a.k.a the game staller before him.
In that case with Mario,Vecino, and Valero we have a really attacking midfield but weak in defense, so the right thing would be adding a pitbull like Gagliardini who is more physical.
Short takes:
– Mario was great, this kid deserves to be in the starting 11.
– Vecino’s movements was passive, that’s why we had trouble controlling the ball after we were 2-0 up early. Gagliardini should be started.
– Mauro and Perisic are worldclass.
– Skriniar is more than a prospect, this kid will be great.
– Fagatomo finally had a decent game like an average serie A fullback. So sorry for myself and fellow Interesta that him not committing any mistakes should be celebrated.
I hope Icardi continues playing everywhere like tonight.
He needs to work in his first touch and getting better at starting actions very quick though.
Seeing Naga and Brozo in starting XI, almost ruined my mood, before this I was sure of us winning this game, well, Spalletti proved me wrong, for the first time for many years I can’t wait for next game. And we’re going to Rome for a win, not for ‘not to lose’! Forza Inter!

Fantastic start to the season, going to sleep really happy today!
As far as the game goes, we dominated the early third of the game, but then Fiorentina took the initiative. We lacked some focus but nothing we couldn’t handle. We were a bit wasteful, inviting pressure and trying to score on counter attacks doesn’t work if we waste some really nice chances. But Fiorentina played pretty well, I wouldn’t write them off with the talent they’ve brought in. Their defense is lacking but their movement on the ball in the midfield and attack was decent.
As far as the players go, Valero was bossing the midfield as we’ve seen in the previous seasons. Vecino wasn’t spectacular in terms of flashy skills, but he put in hard work in the midfield, making good interceptions and tackles while helping with distributing the ball, he had 100% pass accuracy in the first half. Škriniar was a total rock, like in the preseason games, if he can continue to play like this, we have one of the best CB pairings in the league. Icardi was good in attack as usual, and a bit unlucky to not score the third. Perišić showed why he was worth keeping, he is worth more than €50m to us. Handanovič showed that he still has what it takes, one or two really good saves. Even Nagatomo had a good game.
Spalletti’s tactics are showing, we are a lot more fluid on the ball than last season. Starting Brozović was questionable but other than that our approach was good. Subs were rational and had impact on the game.
Big intentions for this season shown by the top contenders, most won in quite decisive fashion. Roma’s 1-0 win over Atalanta was the least convincing, but playing against them on their turf is always a hard task.

give me a break all hail nagatomo guys. if you will give me 1000 chances to cross i will also get an assist every now and then. nagashitomo losses simple passes, cant control simple balls well and destroyes our attacks. in addition, fiorentina do whatever they want on their right flank(our left). they take him for a walk every time and even did a nice tunnel on him.
