Joao Cancelo will more than likely be announced as an Inter player today Gazzetta dello Sport detail. The Portuguese full back is joining on loan with Inter having the option to redemption as part of a deal that has seen Geoffrey Kondogbia go to Valencia. The player is expected to chose between numbers 2 and 7 for his shirt. Last season, Cancelo wore 2 at Valencia but switched to 7 for this season.

OK guys honest opinion on this guy is he a up grade on ambro or not is he a more defensive rb so we don’t need to worry about being caught out or will help candreva more
he’s attacking player.. defensively d’ambrosio is better, but his attacking skills are better than d’ambrosio.
I always wonder why we have never retired the number 2. Bergomi served the club for two decades.

Im against retiring numbers tbh, if every Inter legends number should be retired then soon every number from 1-11 would be gone.

With all due respect to all our legends, the only number that should be retired is 4. Not only did Zanetti play his entire career for Inter he now serves as a director. His heart is truly nerazzurro.

Facchetti won everything at inter over 18 years. Was the captain of la grande Inter and Italy. He was the first modern full back and revolutionized the game. He continued working with club until his death. His number was retired after a long battle with cancer to honor him (Burdisso switched his number the season after his death) He is the greatest Inter legend of all time.
I think otherwise for this case, with all due respect of il capitano Zanetti, Fachetti is also a true loyal legend who serve Inter his entire career and became our President. And why his number is deserved to retired because he’s gone already 🙁 now, Zanetti is still here, why should we retire his number? I really hope he activate his 4 for a very strong player.. even Roma didnt retire their 10.
you can’t retire number 10. it’s like killing your club. in number there are also represent the role and function, number 9 is main striker, 7 is fast forward/winger/MF, 10 is AMF/SS/playmaker/fantasista. if roma retiring number 10 so they will kill themself.

Thats not going to happen, Cancelo is moving to Inter because he doesnt want to play RM for Valencia, he wants to play RB.
You can be pretty certain that he is here to play RB, thats what he talked about with Spalletti.
Cancelo can also NOT replace Candreva at all. He is not that type of winger, at most he is a right midfield type of “winger”, he is no way as offensive and a goalscorer/assister like Candreva (atleast he used to be). Much like Joao Mario btw, who many people also think can play as a winger in our system, but which he obviously cant.
Ive said it a million times before and now ill say it again. There is not enough goalscoring threat in Inters midfield to be able to afford to use low scoring players like Mario and Cancelo on the wing positions who dont have the offensive characteristics for it. It needs to be natural offensive wingers or inside forwards, there is no way about it.
The term “winger” is being used very losely on this site, but its pretty important to differentiate between RM’s, traditional wingers and inside forwards, even if they technically all operate “on the wing”.
Actually candreva is more like an RM.
Nah, he is a real winger. But its true he can drop back and play RM and RWB.
He was thrown around alot in different positions before moving to Lazio where he really found his place as a natural RW.
When Candreva is eventually being replaced i hope we go for a more forward-esque type. Im not a big fan traditional wingers.
There is NO way that an Italian coach start a player like Cancelo with the defensive deficiencies he has… So he’s going to rot on the bench behind Dumbo.. But since Spal and Saba are close, so they are seeing a use for him. We currently only have one real winger that could be a sub in Gabigol who will be loaned out. So that’s why I’m hypothesizing that Cancelo was signed to be a sub for the winger position.
Spalletti is not exactly famous for focussing on defense.
But as i said, Cancelo is leaving Valencia because Marcelino sees him more as a RM/RW than an RB.
Cancelo sees himself as an RB and wants to play RB to fight for this spot in the national team.
He has obviously talked with Spalletti before joining, about what his supposed role is going to be. It would make no sense for him to join Inter if Spalletti also sees him as an RM/RW.
But i suppose we will see soon enough.
Actually Spal used to sign Bruno Peres for Roma who more or less have similar style to Cancelo, strong on attack but lack defensive capabilities. Maybe it’s a part of his tactical plan.

Well yes Cancelo is not a replacement for Candreva, and the first part I agree with, but a winger is a winger weather played iin a 442 4231 or any formation possible, the difference is what he is capable of and what the coach asks for, you can see Robben and Ribery playing in the same team same formation but one acts as an inside forward and the other is a playmaker, as for formation is just a shape to acheive the taskes asked from players.
