Inter midfielder Joao Mario spoke on his limited use at Inter this season and the current transfer rumours concerning him from the Portuguese national team retreat.
“There are no arguments on my part against the facts, of course I would like to play more just like the many others who are also in my situation.”
The 24-year-old midfielder’s confidence certainly has not been knocked by his limited use adding, “I think things can change and that is what I am focused most on. I know that I will play more, one way or the other. I want to prove to the coach I’m doing well while with the national team and will do my best to be in the squad for the World Cup.”
The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder, who joined Inter back in 2016 following a fine showing at Euro 2016, then discussed the rumours about a possible transfer away from the Nerazzurri.
“The rumours are normal, they’re part of football but I’m always focused, I’m not distracted because I’m used to them. I will see what will happen and then I will make a choice on what’s best for my career,” he concluded.
Why not try him as a winger sometime?
In Crotone (or Benevento ?) he replaced Candreva on the right wing.
Did nothing.
Zero.
Two,maybe three slow, lateral passes to the next guy, lost a couple of balls..zero accellerations,zero threats..
That was it.
Or maybe try him as CM
The only way for us to use him right now is if we went back to the 3 midfield ,aligned:
Vecino,Valero,JM (Brozo),more or less .
In the 4-2-3-1 I am afraid Spalletti has no idea of what to do with him.
But the 4-3-3 may actually not be a bad idea..
You either have the trequartista a’ la Naingollan or you don’t, and if you don’t then you adapt the formation to the best qualities of the players you have.
That could be a way of seeing it.
It looks like some PSG Portuguese manager likes him a lot and thinks he knows how to use him best in their midfield (Mostly in Motta’s place, I believe?)and Emery likes him too.
Problem is :
They are having FFP problems and are under UEFA investigation so they want to SELL Pastore and Lucas,not so much exchanging them.
I had high hopes for this boy at the start of the season. I praised him to the moon and back. But even I have to admit he just can’t cut it in Serie A. Why? I don’t know. He has the skill and talent but he hasn’t shown us shit.
Why?
He is supposed to be an “offensive… something” ( Not even God knows his role yet) who can’t shoot at all and has zero offensive qualities and weight.
My only way to use his qualities(I have been saying this since he arrived ) is as a central midfielder ,even deep in front of the defense ,where his good ball touch ,ball control and passing would have some use,he should have trained hard to learn that .
Because as a winger or trequartista for Serie A at Inter level JM is a total bust.
I just don’t see him growing and fitting in at a club like ours. In my eyes he’s like a version of Clarence Seedorf who can’t shoot and isn’t as strong on the ball… not to mention less grinta.
Yes he is technically gifted but as a trequartista he lacks the ability to score 3-4 goals a season: a trequartista main job isn’t to score but knowing that he is a shooting threat helps the strikers tactically. When mario plays the opposing defenses know he can’t shoot so they can put more pressure on the front three.
Therefore you have to play him as a cm or a winger. As a cm he’s too fragile and not aggressive enough… unless hes willing to turn into a regista.
I can see him as a winger, bt again his non existant shot causes a problem.
The only was he stays is if we use him as a regista behind gaglia and vecino, giving the latter two more room to push up and use their direct running… it could work.
Even a winger should be a scoring threat ,and he is not.
CM is the only way for Mario.
he is loosing his grip, needs to get it together fast, at inter ones u are lost u are gonna have to try really hard to get back on the roster
“I will see what will happen and then I will make a choice on what’s best for my career,” + “I will do my best to be in the squad for the World Cup.” – sentences pointing in the direction of him wanting to force a move through in January if he still isn’t playing by then (and why should he play more by then with Borja and even Brozo both doing very well as attacking midfielder?)
