Corriere dello Sport have labelled Inter’s Gabriel Barbosa, better known by his nickname Gabigol, as a flop.
15 months after completing a €30 million move from Brazilian club Santos and hailed as one of the world’s best young talents, the 21-year-old has showed no signs of living up to the hype that surrounded him during his time at Inter and ongoing loan spell at Benfica.
The Rome based newspaper are of the opinion that Gabigol is an investment to forget for Inter and their Chinese owners Suning who were looking to make a real statement of intent when they signed him, fighting off a wealth of competition to do so.
Joao Mario and Cristian Ansaldi, who both joined around the same time as the Brazilian have both also been labelled flops. The Portuguese has saw limited game time this term while Ansaldi was sold in the summer to Torino, a mere season after joining.
Wish we could exchange him or j mario and 20 mil for draxler lol
Draxler’s wages are too high.
true theres no way we can match his salary 🙁
our legacy ruining young talents 🙁
don’t agree in this case, he was just the wrong one to sign, and it was not hard to tell I could see it from miles away he was not a special player
I agree . The reason Inter got him was because Barcelona was very close to get him !! When i heard gabigoal comin to Inter i was like who is this guy how the fuck is possible i never heard of this guy !! Inter got brainwashed with gabigoal for two reasons 1 because Barca wanted him
2 he won an olimpic medal , the fact is he wasn’t a proven player that you can pay 30 mil . Business is like that tho
No. The reason INTER got him is Kia, the “super”agent who cashed in big time for “consultancy”. This is what happens when you outsource scouting. Luckily we have Sabatini now, but a lot of money was wasted that summer.
i agreed with Jay. this case in not true. gabigol didn’t fare well at benfica as well so it has to do with his attitude same with balotelli. what is true however is Inter was never a home for homegrown Italian players. that is for certain. but since Suning bought the club i see thats going to change as well. finger crossed.
Depending on your age…
I am old enough to know Inter used to be an excellent, an absolute top club in the world for homegrown talents in the 80’s ,70’s and 60’s.
.then.. it all changed.
But ,as recently as 1990 ,just as an example ,what was called “the best defense in the world ever” ,which played for Italy, in Italy 90 World Cup was made up 3/5 by Inter homegrown talents ,who still played for Inter:
Zenga.
Bergomi,Baresi,Ferri,Maldini.
3 out of 5 were not only Inter players but Inter academy products, the other 2 were Milan academy products playing for Milan
( 6 straight world cup games without getting scored, still the world cup record ,ever)
nice stats
Yes ,it is obvious that the tide has changed.
They are really cultivating young talents like never before now.
Gabigol is just ..sorry but…he is just a cr.p.y player.
A mistake ,period.
I hate that we turn our backs on our youth.
Vecino Is a wonderful addition to the club and so is Gagliardini. But Benassi would have made a great signing. We did the same overlooking Bonucci for Ranocchia.
Well, Ausilio will reportedly travel to Brazil next week and will watch a game with Santos and afterwards he will meet the directors of Santos (Gabi´s former club), a club that has some very interesting young players – like Rodrygo a 16 year old attacking midfielder and a nother youngster playing as a winger. Maybe we could strike a deal with Santos involving sending him back home for good in exchange for some of their youngsters, plus who knows, maybe Ausilio is there to finish the deal with Lucas Lima from the same club who will be a free agent in December…
As for Ansaldi we got him for almost nothing and he is playing now on loan at Torino and has been doing well enough to get a call from the Argentinian national team so hopefully we´ll get some money back next summer.
If Barbosa wants to become a footballer and not a football player, he needs to prove himself in Europe. Going back to Brazil would be a step back in his natural development. INTER payed more than 33m for him (including Kia`s fee) because of his young age – basically paying for potential. He needs to get his shit together and learn italian + italian tactics.
Ansaldi was loaned with OBLIGATION to buy for a total of €4m, so he won`t ever come back.
Ansaldi = €2m loan + €2m obligation to buy.
