Another December game, another defeat. Not that Inter’s performance warranted anything else. Spalletti’s men keep trying the same things that haven’t worked since the Chievo game. Inter look like shadows of themselves and didn’t bring out all the reaction that the players and the coach have been talking about.

Samir Handanovic – 6: Some brilliant saves in the first half. Always looked reliable when called upon. As the game went on he looked slower and got worse.

Joao Cancelo – 6.5: Has suddenly learnt how to defend. His crossing continued to be poor though, didn’t get the final ball in well when he had the oppurtunities.

Milan Skriniar – 6.5: Warrior. But human. Maybe he could have done more on the goal but didn’t have much time to react to that. Always moved the ball well.

Andrea Ranocchia – 6: Doing simple things correctly. It looked like another positive outing for Andrea. That is until that ill-fated run that left a gaping hole in defence.

Yuto Nagatomo – 6: Great against Suso defensively. His forays going forward were basically to pass the ball back. Let Suso through once and it cost us. Inter’s best left back.

Matias Vecino – 5.5: Some great runs but lacking the final ball. However he was in the heart of the battle. Like Skriniar, gave it his all for no reward whatsoever.

Roberto Gagliardini – 5.5: Just like Matias, conducted the midfield well. Nice to see some more quick balls forward but also a lot of wayward passes. Still growing up.

Antonio Candreva – 5: Where is Candreva? All his decisiveness seems to have got lost recently. He got nothing right until 5 mins before he was taken off. Missing.

Joao Mario – 4.5: Just a couple of good sparks. Looks woefully out of touch and most importantly minutes. That miss might render him unrecovarable for Inter.

Ivan Perisic – 4.5: Abate was dreadful. Ivan didn’t have a single decent attacking move/dribble or cross. Someone needs to show him videos of taking on opponents.

Mauro Icardi – 5: The team was unable to find him as is usual in the last 4 games. Tried his best to make the most of his chances. Too frustrated towards the end.

Borja Valero – 5: First poor performance by Borja. Didn’t make the ball tick at all. Didn’t switch play or try to fasten up our very slow attempts to attack.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Brozovic was the only substitute who had any sort of impact. Won a lot of balls, ran a lot but like everyone else he never got a decent ball in.

Eder – 5: Yes he is Inter’s usual first sub, but he isnt the best option to bring on when Inter need a goal in a game like this. Passes too strong or weak.

Luciano Spalletti – 5: I’m on team Luciano, but he cant keep playing Perisic and Candreva in this form and keep trying the same thing again and again. Season at risk.

Marco Guida – 6: Good use of the VAR. Maybe missed a booking on Bonaventura in the first half but cant find any major faults with Guida’s performance tonight.

Inter – 4,5: Only Inter can make opponents love their hated goalkeeper within 90 mins. No new ideas, no resolve. All good work is going down the drain.

Is there still hope? Should Inter be worried about that 4th place? Had Joao put that chance in, would Inter have won?
