Both teams are on polar opposite runs of form as they meet up for the Derby Della Madonnina. Inter have been on an awful stretch that has seen them drop from title contenders to fourth place hopefuls, while Milan have a renewed sense of self belief and purpose. Match on Sunday at 20:45CET
There’s no rationalizing the run of form Inter have been on. There’s no logical explanation of the edgy performance against Benevento or the home loss against Udinese or any other result that has disappointed the Inter faithful and threatened the side’s once-iron-clad CL credentials.
That said, there’s no better platform on which to launch the Nerzzurri renaissance than the Derby della Madonnina. Inter seem to have been able to do it all in terms of game-play, except actually win a match,. Milan on the other hand have been on a riot, despite their below par performances the Rossoneri have approached matches with a sense of belief and purpose that has led to their climb back up the Serie A rankings.
It seems almost certain that Luciano Spaletti will enter the match with one thing on his mind: Beat Milan and take all three points home. Accordingly, expect him [Spaletti] to field an offensively driven side with Ivan Perisic, Antonio Candreva and Yann Karamoh supporting Icardi up front. The dynamic duo of Perisic and Candrecva will hopefully find their assisting boots fore Maurito, while the young and brash Karamoh can always add the x-factor to any high-profile match.
What is also clear is that Spletti is the more thoughtful and cognizant of the two coaches. However, Rinho Gauttuso represents more that than just a pitbull; his methods have seen the Rossoneri jump from mid table perennials to top four contenders. Milan have not lost since right before Christmas of 2017.
the Inter supporters still seem to be fully in line with club management and strategy. But this is not a given, as long as Inter are able to realistically contend for a Champions League spot the tifosi will support the side, but if the Nerazzurri are to fall behind Milan, heads will roll.
Team News
The big news out of the Inter camp is the availability of all previously injured players; the derby will see the return of both Joao Miranda and Mauro Icardi to the starting eleven for the first time in weeks. While Rafinha is also fit to start the match, he will probably make way for Roberto Gagliardini in midfield, giving Spaletti the option of utilizing him(Rafinha) off the bench if necessary.
Probable Inter line-up (subject to change): (4-2-3-1) Handanovic (C); D’Ambrosio, Miranda, Skriniar, Cancelo; Vecino, Gagliardini; Perisic, Candreva, Karamoh; Icardi
Stats
Last Season: Milan 2 – 2 Inter
Last 10 Head to Head: Draws have been the name of the game when both sides have met in recent history. Points have been shared in the last five of ten league encounters, however, Inter slightly edge Milan out in win with three to the Rossorneri’s two.
Keep an Eye on
Mauro Icardi: The undoubted star and sensation of the first-leg match is finally back from his long term injury and will be chomping on the bit to get back on the scoresheet especially against the Rossoneri. Icardi’s return to the bench last week coincided with Inter’s hard-fought win against Benevento, and maybe his return to the starting eleven can coincide with Inter’s return to form.

Prediction & Authors Note
Prediction & scorers: Milan 1-3 Inter with Icardi scoring a brace and Perisic killing the match off.
Author’s Note: Not much to say except all we can hope for is a performance worthy of Inter’s ambitions to reach the Champions League and a controversy-free match. Sempre, e solo, Forza Inter!
All serie A games is canceled today.. RIP Davide Astori
RIP Davide Astori, some things are bigger than football- thoughts to his family.
Although the death of Astori is very tragic, his death came at the worst time for Inter… Milan would’ve played their 3 game in one week so they would be tired and Inter would have a big advantage… instead they get to rest now and come back even stronger… RIP Astori
But their form is way better than us currently
They shouldn’t call this game off… I understand why the other two were called off. Instead they should play for Astori.
He was the Captain of Viola, as well as friend and former teammate of so many in this league
Not saying he isn’t important, just that it’s better to celebrate the person’s life and their achievements. What better way to do that by playing the game he loved in his honor and memory…. May be in the minority and I prob will get criticized but I’m okay with that.
Especially players who know him or are his friends are really not in a right state of mind to play today. Players association pleaded that the games will not be played today.
From Milan’s youth academy. I would have been very surprised if they had not decided cancel the derby.
Just read that several games could be cancelled due to the death of viola captain Astori. This is tragic. RIP.
disappointment is looming …
I can’t remember when the stakes were higher than in this game. If we were to make progress in this season tonight will be like the finale of the Champions League. We must run our souls out to get a positive result!!!
we will win this derby
The only chance to win is to start Karamoh. If Spalletti is gonna start Candreva, Brozo, Gaglia and Dumb at the same time, with Rafinha and Karamoh on the bench we’ll lose and we’ll lose it BADLY!
Couldn’t agree more, and Dalbert should be starting too, but we both know that that’s never gonna happen! Entire season pretty much comes down to this game- fingers crossed!
Very optimistic prediction from the author.I don’t believe in a 3-1 win, I hardly believe in a win given the form of the teams. At tis point, Inter can only surprise me in a positive manner.. So: do it ugly if you must boys, but get the 3 points.
EDIT. And don’t forget to set the alarm, Vecino and Gagli!
This derbi will be like a therapy for Inter the atmosphere is going to charge the players up is just that i hope is not a tie
See Roma last night demolish Napoli and Rubentus lucky win against Lazio,I am sure it is not imposible we ended in EL spot rather rather than UCL spot if we continue play like “don’t know what to do on the field” football club.
This is the most important game of the season. We have to win to keep our destiny in our own hands
Lotito just hinted out De Vrij’s next destination !!!!
When asked wether inter will be De Vrij’s next destination he said :
“I know where he’s going, but it’s not for me to say. Maybe it’s the wind that blows the free agents towards San Siro…”
Well i sure hope the lad doesnt end up in the wrong side of san siro 🙂
A few free players have been blown to Lazio too, but he does not mention that.
It was Igli Tare that said that, but it does indeed seem as solid as it could get. Hopefully it’s to partner Skriniar and not replace him.
