Should Luciano Spalletti manage to qualify Inter for next season’s Champions League he will be rewarded with a new contract according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 58-year-old’s current contract runs through to the end of next season but Inter’s owners Suning will give him an extension through to the end of the 2020/21 season at least, the Milanese newspaper reports.

It is unclear at this moment however what failing to qualify for the Champions League will mean for Spalletti’s future at the helm of the Nerazzurri.

In a recent interview, Spalletti downplayed the importance of contracts stating, “contracts are used to bring out a bit of hype, but they get undone in a moment.”

With 9 games in Serie A remaining for Spalletti and his men, they are on course to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2011. Inter currently occupy fourth spot but could overtake Roma if they are to win the Derby della Madonina on Wednesday night.
