Inter hopes of signing Luka Modric could soon be dented with Real Madrid keen to sign the Croatian midfielder to a new and improved contract according to a report from Spanish newspaper AS.

The Nerazzurri courted Modric back in the Summer but were unable to get a deal done largely due to Los Blancos president Florentino Perez’s reluctance to allow the reigning Balon d’Or holder to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric joined the Spanish capital club from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2012 and has since went on to make almost 300 appearances in which he has played an integral part in Real’s unprecedented success in the Champions League in recent years.

Real Madrid management would like the 33-year-old to finish his career at the club and are willing to prolong his current contract by a further two years. Modric is currently under contract with the club through to the end of next season and they wish to extend his contract to the Summer of 2022.
