Legendary Italian manager Marcello Lippi has chimed in with his thoughts on the current situation of Mauro Icardi at Inter.

The Argentine striker was recently stripped of the Inter captaincy and has not featured in the Nerazzurri’s past two games.

“Nothing exceptional is happening, there is no will to offload him,” Lippi said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

There is no desire to download it. They [Inter’s management] simply thought that for the good of the team, changing some things could be useful, like changing who wears the captain’s armband.”

“Icardi is a monument at Inter and the club aren’t so foolish that they won’t play him and depress him. They know they do not have another player like him. Lautaro runs like crazy and throws himself at everything but he is different to Icardi.

“Once Icardi is recovered, it will be for both his and the team’s good,” he concluded.

The 26-year-old attacker has been with Inter since 2013 and has scored over 100 goals for the club in that time.
