Corriere della Sera have explained the latest reform proposals UEFA have for the various continental competitions.

Starting with the Champions League, beginning in the 2024/25 season, it will have more of a league structure to it which will include promotion and relegation to the Europa League.

Rather than eight groups of four, there will be four groups of eight and the top six teams in each group will be in the following season’s edition.

Only four of the 32 teams that will compete will qualify through their performances in their domestic league for the competition that will have a further 128 games than the current system.

In order to make up for all of the extra games, FIFA would be forced to reduce the number of international breaks each season to three.

The Europa League will have 32 teams and a third competition, Europa League 2, will be introduced and that will contain 64 clubs.

The Europa League 2 will be split into geographical locations and the regional winners will then all compete in playoffs to get promoted to the Europa League.

The report also warns that games could also take place over weekends although this is something that European clubs have long opposed.
